Domain Registration on Record Pace? Over 750K Added Yesterday Alone - Registrations of domain names seem to be going on at a record pace.
Yesterday saw the number of domain registrations across all Top Level Domain (TLD) names have a net add of over 750,000 domains according to registrarstats.com
“Net Add” mean its the amount of domains registered less the number of domain names deleted.
The gross numbers of domain names registered yesterday were close to 900,000.

New gTLD Add Over 1 Million Domain Registrations in Just Last 5 Days - According to ntldstats.com, the number of new gTLD’s domain registrations grew by 1.1 million domains, in just the last 5 days.
In terms of percentage of increase, the 1.1 million increase in new gTLD domain names, is close to a 9% increase in just 5 days.
On February 13th, there were a total of 12,675,000 new gTLD domain names registered.

In Less Than 2 Years, .XYZ Passes 14 Year Old .BIZ to Become 5th Largest Domain Extension -
The new gTLD domain name extension, .XYZ is which won’t be two years old until, June of this year, just surpassed the domain extension .Biz which has been around since 2001 in the number of domain registrations.
According to RegistrarStats.com, .XYZ now has 2,369,039 domain name registered which passed .Biz which has 2,305,687 domains registered.
In passing .Biz, .XYZ becomes the 5th largest Top Level Domain (TLD) in terms of domain name registrations.

.Com Tops 125 Million Domain Registrations -
According to Verisign (VRSN) the registry for .Com, the number of .Com registration crossed the 125 million mark in the Domain Name Base.
The active zone file is just over 124 Million domain names.
The active zone file does not include domain names that are not configured for use, and those in client or server hold status.
At TheDomains.com when we report on .Com domain registrations we always use the Domain Name Base figure.
In January 2014 the number of .com registrations stood at 112 Million.

Verisign Expects Higher Non-Renewal Rates From Those 4th Q Domains Reg By Chinese Investors - Verisign reported its earnings for the 4th quarter of 2015 and financial results for 2015.
In the earnings call today, Verisign made some interesting comments about that huge volume of .Com domain name registration we saw from Asia the 4th quarter of 2015:

.XYZ Says They Just "Blew Past" 2 Million Domain Registrations -
Daniel Negari the CEO of the .XYZ registry just sent me over a note that the new gTLD .XYZ has “blew past 2 Million domain name registrations”.
According to ntldstats.com .XYZ was sitting at 1,967,963 domain registrations as of the last zone update, however there has been a huge surge in 6 number .XYZ domain names from China (NNNNNN.xyz) (also known as 6N domains) of over 100,000 domain registrations.
According to XYZ 27% of all 6N domain name combinations are now registered.

CENTR Reports There Are 311.5 Million Domains In The World -
According to a new report out today (PDF) by CENTR, which is the European country code TLD organisation, as of December 31, there are 311.5 million domain names in the world.
158.7 million domain names are Legacy TLD’s including .com, .net and .org; 140.1 million are ccTLD’s (country codes), 1.6 Million are IDN ccTLD’s, and 10.9 Million are New gTLD’s.

Quick Poll: How Many .Com's Will Be Registered By 1/1/17? - So the final count for the number of registered domain names for January 1, 2016 is 123,963,640 according to Verisign.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, the number of .Com registrations were 115.6 million names.
So the number of .Com’s increased some 7 Million in 2015 or over 7%.
The question is how many .Com will be registered by next year, 1/1/17?
This year we all know we had a short period of time where millions of .Com’s that were previously unregistered got registered by people in China.

CSC's Nov New gTLD Report: New gTLD Sites in Alexa Top 1M Up 25% In a Month -
Brand protection and domain name registrar, CSC (Corporation Service Company) has issued its “New gTLD Utilization Report” for November.
According to CSC the number of active” .brands new gTLD’s (those with five or more registrations) increased from October when there were 53 .brand new gTLD’s with five or more registrations to 75 in November, representing a 42% increase.

CentralNic Buys Registrar Instra.com & Stock is Down Almost 20% - CentralNic (LON:CNIC) is buying privately-owned domain name registrar, Instra Group, funded in part from a £10mln placing of stock with investors at 40p a share, for almost £16mln (A$33mln).
According to the press release “the purchase will extend CentralNic’s capabilities and “significantly increase” its retail offering.”
According to the press release Instra in the year to June 30 posted pre-tax profits of just over £1mln (A$2.1mln) on turnover of £7.11mln (A$14.8mln).

.Club announced today on its blog, that they had a record-setting month in November selling $1,622,164.13 in premium domain names.
In all .Club sold 326 premium domains in November.

CentralNic Passes 2 Million Registrations of New gTLD - CentralNic Group PLC has over 2.0 million domains registered using its platform representing 21% of all new gTLD domain names.
Of the 2+ million new gTLD registered through CentralNic 1,552,903 are .XYZ domain names. The only other extension using CentralNic that has 100,000+ is .website, although .online is quickly approaching with just about 95,000 domain names.

Australia's Domain Administration (auDA) Proposes To Allow Direct .au Registrations - According to smh.com.au, folowing the led of New Zealand and the Britain, Australia’s regulatory body for domain names, .au Domain Administration (auDA), recently announced its 2015 Names Policy Panel proposal that individuals and entities should be allowed to register domain names directly under .au, for example www.abc.au in addition to .com.au
Under the proposal, domains ending with com.au, net.au etc would remain available but direct registrations under .au “would create more options”

There Are Now 2,121 ICANN Accredited Domain Name Registrars -
During remarks made at the 54th ICANN Meeting being held in Dublin, Akram Atallah, the President of the Global Domain Domains Division of ICANN stated that there are now 2,121 ICANN Accredited Domain Name Registrars in the world.
ICANN has accredited 579 domain name registrars just since the last ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires 53, which was held June 21-25, 2015.

CentralNic Profit More than Doubles in 1st Half of 2015 - CentralNic (LON:CNIC) reported today that its profits more than doubled in the first half of 2015.
CentralNic, which is a technical partner and wholesale distributor for web domains, saw a 213% rise in bookings to £7.9mln in the six months to June 30, compared with £2.5mln in the corresponding period of 2014.
Booked revenue was up 171% at £4.4mln versus £1.6 last year, while gross profit increased 125% to £2.1mln from £0.95mln in the first half of 2014.

.XYZ Sees Nearly 20K New Domain Registrations In 2 Days Since ABC.XYZ Announcement - Since Google Inc. announced Alphabet Inc. on August 10, 2015 around 3 PM ET and stated they will be using the domain name ABC.XYZ, the new gTLD .xyz has had nearly 20,000 new domain names registered!
It started with over 6,000 .xyz domains being registered after Google’s announcement.
New registrations for .xyz cranked that rising total up over double in one day with 13,000+ more domain name registrations! (13,206 to be exact) with a two day total of about 20,000 newly registered .xyz domain names.

Henderson Global Investors Acquires Over 20% Of Minds + Machines: Has £89.4bn resources underneath management - Henderson Global Investors has acquires over 20% Of the voting shares of Minds + Machines.
Since Fred Krueger announced he was leaving the company around 3 weeks ago, his ownership of Minds + Machines has now fallen to under 9%, sitting as of the last announcement at 8.7%.
Mr. Krueger owned some 15.9% of the shares of the company before his announcement and so he has sold, a little less than 50% of his shares.
