New Domain Extensions: Registries Should be Required To Give Trademark Holders Their Domains. - The domain industry got another black eye when Toyota.me became the highest priced .me domain sale, at over 90K. In the next few years there may be hundreds of new extensions (gTLD’s) and each one will increase the trademark problem, unless some policy is adopted to head it off. Trademark holders can apply for their domain during the sunrise period of a domain extension launch. Sunrise period application are always priced substantially higher than regular registration during the land rush.  For ... read more ...

ICANN on .INFO Reserved Domains - Yes boys and girls, there are still domains reserved by Affilias the .info registry, some 6 years after the initial release. An astounding 40% (20,000 out of 50,000) domain names reserved by Affilias for the .info sunrise period were invalidated after WIPO review for non-compliance. While “the vast majority” were reallocated in the spring of 2002, some substantial number remains unclaimed. How did this happened? Well according to ICANN an astounding 40% (20,000 out of 50,000) domain ... read more ...

Be Wary of Used.com and Penny.com Auctions during Sedo - “Meet the seller” shows these auctions may be bogus. I was excited to see that Used.com and Penny.com were on auction at Sedo today. These are both six figure domains. But my excitement was tempered after looking at the “meet the seller” data on the auctions. “Meet the seller” is a new feature Sedo introduced this week. It allows you to see details about the seller of a domain, including their country, when they joined Sedo, and a rating of their activity. ... read more ...

Domain Arbitration Inconsistency: FoodEmporium.com/.net/.org - Think UDRP panels are inconsistent? Here’s proof. If you think UDRP panel decisions are inconsistent, look no further than three cases involving New York grocer The Food Emporium. It filed three separate actions under UDRP for FoodEmporium.com, FoodEmporium.net, and FoodEmporium.org. It won .org but lost the other two. There are reasons for the differences, including the registrant of .org not responding to the complaint. But if you read the decisions you’ll ... read more ...

GoDaddy Hikes Price of .Net and .Org Domain Names to $13.19 - You’ve been paying more at the pump. Now you’re paying more at the registrar. I’m not sure when this happened, but a reader pointed out that GoDaddy has hiked prices on .net and .org domain names to $13.19 per domain. That’s a 30% increase. This is probably just a business decision by GoDaddy to maximize profit. It can easily calculate how many .net and .org sales it loses and determine if the price hike is worth it. When I asked GoDaddy about its ... read more ...

BMEzine.com is an ezine about body piercing, tattoos, etc. For the past couple years the domain has shown ... read more ...
