One Site Owner Wants to Trade His .Com for a .Link - Switching from a .com to a .link Jean Guillon runs newsgtlds.com and he wrote about wanting to change to a .link on gtld.club. From the article: Prior to the first new domain name launchings, I had created a website entitled NEWSgTLDs.com to inform about new generic Top-Level Domains. New domain names didn’t exist yet so I had to find a domain name and .COM came to my mind. I considered .INFO too but let’s make it simple : you don’t launch a website with a .INFO domain name if you don’t ... read more ...

OpenDNS kills the typosquatting operation - Company to shut down NXD error redirect service. OpenDNS announced this week that it is shutting down a service that was, in effect, a giant typosquatting operation. Millions of people use OpenDNS as an alternative to their ISP’s DNS. The useful service needed a way to make money, and it found a very lucrative one: whenever someone would type in a non-existent domain name (NXD), OpenDNS would show them a search results page that also included Yahoo! ads. Other ISPs ... read more ...

Are Nexus Requirements Good or Bad? - I believe that geographic new gTLD extensions are going to be successful. Cities have a built-in audience of businesses and residents who may wish to purchase their business or keyword domain name in their local extension. There are two different approaches to selling their domain names, and one involves limiting sales to entities within the geographic area and the other involves selling domain names to anyone. I am curious to know your thoughts on which is the better approach. .NYC domain ... read more ...

We look at the importance of brand protection in domain names, the launch of the .financial generic top level domain (gTLD) and the steps businesses can take to protect their brand. What’s changed? Registrants join the ‘.club’, but are brand owners outside looking in? - With heavyweight endorser 50 Cent throwing his weight behind the ‘.club’ gTLD, the string has shot to the top of the gTLD registrations table.

A Word’s Worth: Contention Sets and New gTLD Auctions - Depending on the person, the word auction can bring to mind a dusty, hot structure full of livestock and a fast-talking announcer with a Western lilt to his voice or a cool, quiet room of well-dressed art patrons waiting for the next Impressionist masterpiece to be unveiled in a stately building on the Upper East Side.Aside from applicants for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and those in the ICANN community, most people probably don’t think of auctions as a way to resolve what are essentially ... read more ...

Funniest UDRP. Ever. - This respondent is funny, and it has nothing to do with his response. Sometimes you have to go back to dig up gems, like this UDRP case from 2002. It was recently spotted by domain lawyer John Berryhill. The case involved the domain name wwwsportauthority.com, a typo of the sports retailer’s site.
