Afilias currently runs the registry operations for .org, and has since .org was transitioned from Verisign to Public Interest Registry in 2003.

.NGO applicant has goal of a million domain registrations.
Public Interest Registry (PIR), the registry behind the .org domain and the only applicant for the .NGO top level domain name, has some lofty goals for the domain.
PIR CEO Brian Cute thinks they’ll get one million .ngo domain name registrations.

Go Daddy’s auction of one and two character .org domain names ends on Thursday, and plenty of the lower priced domains are seeing action.
Go Daddy’s .org auction is part of Public Interest Registry’s Project 94. Up to 94 one and two character .org domains will be allocated.[Update: the auction has been extended until April 4.] As of the time of posting, TS.org has the highest bid at $2,475 with 5 bidders and 16 bids.

.Org indiscriminate cost to boost to $8.25 -
.Org gets pricier.
.Com prices may be fixed for the next six years, but that’s not stopping other registries from increasing prices.
Public Interest Registry has informed ICANN that it will increase the wholesale cost of a .org domain name to $8.25 on July 1, 2013.
It sent a letter to ICANN on Christmas Eve that was just published yesterday.

This week Public Interest Registry, the non-profit that runs .org, announced auctions for 85 one and two character .org domain names. The domains will be auctioned through Go Daddy and eNom in what the company dubs “Project94″.

Shorter .Org Domain Names May Be On The Way -
Public Interest Registry asks for permission to allocate one and two character .org domain names.
.Org domain name registry Public Interest Registry is asking (pdf) ICANN to allow it to allocate certain one and two character .org domain names.
PIR’s contract with ICANN currently prohibits registering these short .org domain names. PIR wants to allocate any such domains excluding ones that correspond to a country code.

Wholesale cost for .org domain registrations increases next year.
The wholesale price for registering a .org domain name will increase in April 2011.
In a short letter to ICANN dated yesterday, .org registry Public Interest Registry said it will increase the annual price to $7.21 beginning April 1. This does not include ICANN fees.

It’s that time of year again — time for VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN) and other registries to increase their wholesale price of domain names.
VeriSign’s wholesale prices for .com and .net increase on October 1, 2008. The new .com price will be $6.86. With ICANN’s 20 cent fee that means the minimum cost to your registrar is $7.06. .Net prices will be $4.23 before ICANN’s fee.
