For Rick who always talked about having a 20 year plan, 2015 marks the 20th year and its been a record setter. My thoughts on $9 million Porno.com domain name sale - A mammoth domain name sale sends shock waves through the domain name business. Rick Schwartz, aka the “Domain King”, has done it again. As first reported by TheDomains yesterday, Schwartz sold the domain name Porno.com for $8,888,888.88. Here are my thoughts on the sale. 1. First, a hat tip to Schwartz. He’s a polarizing figure, and you might not agree with everything he does or says. But this latest sale solidifies him in the halls of domaining. And, regardless of what you think of his antics, ... read more ...

Guy tries to heading one of Rick Schwartz’s domain names - This one will be interesting. This morning I was perusing recently filed trademark applications when I came across an application for Trademarking.com. When I checked the whois on the domain name, I saw that the domain was registered to domain name investor Rick Schwartz. But the company that filed the trademark was Trademark King in Indiana. TrademarkKing.com (with two k’s) is registered under whois privacy, so I thought perhaps the trademark applicant owns this ... read more ...

Has Men.com Sold Again? - Curious changes at Men.com. Has Men.com, which Rick Schwartz sold for seven figures nearly a decade ago, changed hands again? That’s a rumor I’m chasing down. If you have any other information, please comment on it. [Update: I’ve confirmed the domain has sold. Men.com, LLC had two managing members left as of the company’s latest annual report with Florida.] Here’s the deal. In early April the administrative contact for the domain changed from Men.com, ... read more ...

Rick and Howard Pulling Out All a Stops for TRAFFIC Miami - Everything’s lined up for TRAFFIC Miami. It seems that it will deliver. I’ve been a vocal critic of some of the TRAFFIC shows in recent years. They seemed to have gone a bit stale and attendance had dwindled. That will not be the case with TRAFFIC Miami, which starts Sunday evening at the South Beach Loews. Perhaps Rick Schwartz and Howard Neu had something to prove. It doesn’t hurt that this is the only event they’re planning for this year (Rick Latona ... read more ...

5 Domain Industry Questions to Be Answered in Next 72 Hours - This week’s TRAFFIC event will answer some questions. Well, I’m off to Vegas. I’m excited to attend the updated T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference. But unlike Ron, I’m not stoked about having two conferences back-to-back. Perhaps it’s because I live in the middle of the country (not coming from the East coast) and have a small child. Nonetheless, business is business. OK, and a bit of fun. For the next 72 hours, it’s all about TRAFFIC. Here are five questions ... read more ...

Can Rick Latona Save TRAFFIC Conference? - Latona will add needed spark to domain conference franchise. TRAFFIC was the first big domain name industry conference. It was also the first to do many innovative things, such as offer a compelling live domain auction. But lately its star has faded. Attendance is down, and don’t just blame the economy. When I asked people before the last TRAFFIC if they were going, a common response was “It’s not relevant anymore”. They blamed lackluster programming ... read more ...

Rick Schwartz Resigns from ICA - Schwartz says Internet Commerce Association headed in wrong direction. Rick Schwartz, co-founder and Board Member of Internet Commerce Association (ICA), and the face behind TRAFFIC conferences, has resigned from ICA. In a scathing post on his blog, Schwartz wrote: While the ICA has done some good things, it has missed too many opportunities to be more relevant. Too many opportunities to look out for domainers and the best interests of the industry IMHO. Too many ... read more ...

How to Edit Domain Submissions to TrafficZ Auction - If you submitted domains to the TrafficZ/Aftermarket.com auction at TRAFFIC, here’s how to add descriptions to each of your domains. If you’ve already submitted domains to the TrafficZ auction taking place at TRAFFIC next month in New York, you should consider adding descriptions to each of your domains. Moniker To Get Auction Competition during TRAFFIC Shows - Multiple live auction companies to host auctions at event. I’m sure there’s a backstory on this, but Rick Schwartz, who co-produces the TRAFFIC domain name conferences, just sent out an e-mail announcing that Moniker will no longer be the exclusive provider of domain auctions at his conferences. For the first time at any domain show we are going to have multiple live auctions presented by multiple auction houses. This is going to be a game changer! Howard and ... read more ...

Hey, Take a Chill Pill! - The domain industry isn’t perfect, but you need not run for the hills. I got a kick out of a message posted on Rick Schwartz’s blog after he announced he would stop blogging: I hope you all realize what is going on here. The message should be loud and clear. Rick has been warning everybody all year to help him mount a defense against what is coming. Very few are paying attention, and very few are helping him build the fort to protect against the coming invaders. ... read more ...
