Remember that behest fight for 66.biz ? Owner got his genuine universe estimation and eliminated out - I have talked many times about people playing the real world appraisal game, they let the domain name complete auction at Go Daddy and then get the auth code and transfer out. Not everyone knows that you can transfer out, so many believe that someone would not pay $80 for this real world appraisal, most don’t pay $80 and redeem at Go Daddy, they transfer out to another registrar for $8. So there was a lot of excitement about 66.biz and the bidding war taking place, the name closed at $69,000, but ... read more ...

There’s no such thing as a reward .Info domain name any more - The market is quickly becoming flooded with acceptable alternatives to .info (and .biz) domains. Sedo is trying to sell some of its own .info domain names in an auction right now, and takers are few and far between. The auction is called the “Premium .info Auction”, and I’ll agree that some of the second level terms are decent: inbox, carwash, slogan, grooming, etc. But why would anyone pay much for these domains? Five years ago I might pay somewhere in the ... read more ...

e.Biz Sells for $66,001 - e.Biz steals the show at successful one character .biz auction. It’s no surprise that e.Biz was the top selling domain name in Sedo’s one character .biz domain name auction. But $66,001? That will certainly turn a lot of heads. Especially since the winner could have picked the domain up for a few hundred dollars and a commitment to develop/market it had it gone through .biz registry Neustar’s RFP process. About 20 bidders participated, but just two bidders ... read more ...

Registries Must Lobby GoDaddy for Success - GoDaddy’s power in domain registration cannot be ignored. Registries make money when more domains are registered as they get a typically flat fee for each domain registered. For example, VeriSign gets $6.42 for each .com domain registered. With GoDaddy ... read more ...

GoDaddy Playing Hardball with NeuStar? - Pricing at GoDaddy for NeuStar’s .us and .biz domains is oddly high. In February I wrote about GoDaddy’s price increase for .biz domain names. The registrar was charging $14.99 for .biz domain names, even though its wholesale cost at the registry is about the same as .com domain names (which GoDaddy sells for $9.99). It appeared that GoDaddy was just trying to make some extra profit. But a couple weeks ago a friend pointed out that I may have missed the boat ... read more ...

Mailbag: What’s Up With GoDaddy’s .Biz Pricing? - A reader inquires about GoDaddy’s .biz price jump. Dear Domain Name Wire: Godaddy recently raised its prices on .biz to a published $14.99. Even going through an account manager the price is still over $10. GD has definitely been getting less price competitive, but this one seems completely out in left field.
