The Bizarre Afterlife of .su, the Domain Name and Last Bastion of the USSR - On September 19, 1990, a forgettable event failed to change the course of human history. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority assigned the Soviet Union .su as its country code top-level domain. This presumably would have mattered a great deal more if the “Evil Empire” hadn’t collapsed 15 months later, but .su, notably, didn’t collapse with its country. The domain lives on and now, 25 years laters, it’s making a strange and unsettling comeback.Let’s start from the beginning: ccTLDs ... read more ...

Brand management in the internet age: new options, new concerns - Starting in 2012, the Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began to revolutionize the internet with the release of a vast number of new top-level domain spaces. While most attorneys, and indeed the general public, are familiar with many of the commonly-used TLD spaces (e.g., .com, .net, .edu,), with the launch of well over one thousand new spaces (available in the near future), simply registering your client’s business name in one or two extensions may not prove ... read more ...

Add ABC.cm to the list of Google Names - Looking at whois records for other cctlds on the heels of the .mx purchase, it looks like ABC.cm changed hands on 8/7. Maybe Disney will care about this name if Google is indeed the buyer. The domain was dropped and registered in 2014 so a quick flip.
