Domain Registration on Record Pace? Over 750K Added Yesterday Alone - Registrations of domain names seem to be going on at a record pace.
Yesterday saw the number of domain registrations across all Top Level Domain (TLD) names have a net add of over 750,000 domains according to registrarstats.com
“Net Add” mean its the amount of domains registered less the number of domain names deleted.
The gross numbers of domain names registered yesterday were close to 900,000.

In Less Than 2 Years, .XYZ Passes 14 Year Old .BIZ to Become 5th Largest Domain Extension -
The new gTLD domain name extension, .XYZ is which won’t be two years old until, June of this year, just surpassed the domain extension .Biz which has been around since 2001 in the number of domain registrations.
According to RegistrarStats.com, .XYZ now has 2,369,039 domain name registered which passed .Biz which has 2,305,687 domains registered.
In passing .Biz, .XYZ becomes the 5th largest Top Level Domain (TLD) in terms of domain name registrations.

.Com Tops 125 Million Domain Registrations -
According to Verisign (VRSN) the registry for .Com, the number of .Com registration crossed the 125 million mark in the Domain Name Base.
The active zone file is just over 124 Million domain names.
The active zone file does not include domain names that are not configured for use, and those in client or server hold status.
At TheDomains.com when we report on .Com domain registrations we always use the Domain Name Base figure.
In January 2014 the number of .com registrations stood at 112 Million.

Verisign: What goes adult competence come down - Strong end of 2015 could make for a challenging end to 2016.
.Com domain name registry Verisign reported Q4 results after the bell yesterday.
Thanks to Chinese domain name investors, the company had 12.2 million new domain name registrations for .com and .net last quarter, as compared to 8.2 million for the same quarter in 2014. This boosted its base of .com and .net by 4.6 million after deletions.

China dominates new .com registration trends - Chinese names are a big hit in .com.
Verisign has released its monthly trending keywords report, and words tied to China dominated last month.
The list considers which keywords made the biggest jump in registrations from one month to the next. Here are the top ten for last month:

3. Yun
4. Bao
5. Rong
6. Smith
7. Lock
8. Che
9. Feng
10. Yin

Lice, Chinese difference trending in .com - Lots of lice in .com last month.
Verisign has published its monthly trending keywords report, showing the keywords making the biggest jump in domain name registrations compared to the prior month.
Clinic came in at #1 on the list and Lice is #4. This is thanks to a whopping 1,600 domains registered by a lice removal clinic. It registered names such as LiceClinicsArlington.com and LiceClinicsIllinois.com.

Verisign's Top Trending Keywords In Dec For .Com & .Net Include Chinese Fang & Wang - The top 10 trending keywords registered in .com and .net during the month of December 2015 are below release by Verisign the registry for .Com and .Net are as follows.

The Number of .Com Domains Top 124 Million For The First Time - According to Verisign the number of the .Com domain names has crossed the 124 million mark for the first time today.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, the base of registered names in .com equaled 115.6 million names.

Quick Poll: How Many .Com's Will Be Registered By 1/1/17? - So the final count for the number of registered domain names for January 1, 2016 is 123,963,640 according to Verisign.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, the number of .Com registrations were 115.6 million names.
So the number of .Com’s increased some 7 Million in 2015 or over 7%.
The question is how many .Com will be registered by next year, 1/1/17?
This year we all know we had a short period of time where millions of .Com’s that were previously unregistered got registered by people in China.

It was only a bug: .Com by-pass is behind in iOS 9.2 - Shortcut that dissapeared with iOS 9.1 is back in iOS 9.2.
Last month I wrote about how Apple changed the functionality of the top level domain shortcut button on its keyboard for iPad devices.
When you press and hold the period “.” key, it brings up a list of top level domain name options. Previously, if you didn’t select anything and just released the key, .com was inserted by default.

"China" is #1 trending word in .Com - Thousands of registrations over two days help “China” spike.
It turns out the Chinese aren’t just buying numeric and short .com domain names.
“China” was the #1 trending word in new .com registrations last month according to .com registry Verisign. It seems that there was a spike in domain name registrations containing China followed by three letters (e.g. Chinadjr.com) on November 13-14.

China to make Real Name Verification on .Com Domain Names - The government of China is clamping down on registrants of .com domain names.
Regulations that have prevented Chinese residents from using many new top level domain names will soon affect .com and .net domain name registrations, too.
The rules will apply to .com and .net domain name registrations starting March 1, 2016, according to documents obtained by Domain Name Wire.

AT.com Gets a $1.5 Million Bid At NameJet.com - On Thursday we told you that the domain name AT.com was added to the RightoftheDot domain name auction being held as part of the NamesCon Conference on January 11th 2016, for which pre-bidding is now opened on Namejet.com
There is now a qualified $1.5 Million dollar bid on the domain name AT.com which of course is a even a more rare than a Two Letter .com which only has 676 possible combinations since it’s a word as well.

3.2 Million .Com Added In Last 3 Weeks More Than Increase In All Domains in 2Q - As of today Verisign is reporting that the .Com zone file has topped 123 million domain names; 123,203,096
On October 27, 2015, three weeks ago, the .com zone file topped 120 Million for the first time and had 120,034,068 domain names.
So we are looking at an increase of almost 3.2 million new .com domain names since October 27th, three weeks ago.

Verisign has published its top ten trending keywords in .Com last month, and #6 on the list is blab.
Blab? Yes, blab.
You might want to thank Colorado web design and social media firm Schloss Web Services for that. The company registered dozens of domain names like PhotographyBlabTalk.com, LetsBlabJesus.com, CocktailHourBlab.com and IntroductiontoBlab.com. I wonder if this is related to Blab.im?

Verisign Trending Keywords For Oct Include TM of Nike - Verisign(VRSN) just published it’s trending keywords for domain names registered in .com and .net in October
The term “Ok ” is the number one .Com trending term, which is pretty strange.
Words on the trending list for .com include; walk, blab, sold
It’s pretty early for Christmas, but it’s never to early for marijuana.
On the .Net list I don’t know who is registering all those domains with Nike in them but its unusual to see a trademarked terms on the top 10 list

Domain Registration At a Record Pace 460,000, Yesterday - The huge surge in daily domain name registrations continued yesterday as over 460,000 domain names were registered across all Top Level Domains (excluding ccTLD).
Traditionally the number of domain name registrations slow on the weekend, to the point where it’s not unusual to see the number of .Com deleted, exceed the number of new registrations for the day, leading to a negative number.
Well not yesterday.
