Domain Registration on Record Pace? Over 750K Added Yesterday Alone - Registrations of domain names seem to be going on at a record pace.
Yesterday saw the number of domain registrations across all Top Level Domain (TLD) names have a net add of over 750,000 domains according to registrarstats.com
“Net Add” mean its the amount of domains registered less the number of domain names deleted.
The gross numbers of domain names registered yesterday were close to 900,000.

.Law Gets 5K Registrations in 1st 90 days: We Break Down The Numbers - According to a press release out today, Minds + Machines Group Limited (LSE:MMX), the owner of the new “.law” and .abogado (Lawyer in Spanish) top-level domains, “announced that .law has successfully completed its first 90 days since general availability having fulfilled more than 5,000 verified registrations, with over 700 premium names including numerous domains which have sold for $100,000 or more.”

CENTR Reports There Are 311.5 Million Domains In The World -
According to a new report out today (PDF) by CENTR, which is the European country code TLD organisation, as of December 31, there are 311.5 million domain names in the world.
158.7 million domain names are Legacy TLD’s including .com, .net and .org; 140.1 million are ccTLD’s (country codes), 1.6 Million are IDN ccTLD’s, and 10.9 Million are New gTLD’s.

.XYZ Registry Reports Nearly All 5 Number Domains Sold Out - Daniel Negari, CEO of the .xyz registry has reported to TheDomains.com that there are less than 10,000 five number .xyz domain name combinations left before they are all registered!
To be exact, at time of publication, only 9.59% are available to register of the once 100,000 according to the tracker provided by the registry.

CSC's Nov New gTLD Report: New gTLD Sites in Alexa Top 1M Up 25% In a Month -
Brand protection and domain name registrar, CSC (Corporation Service Company) has issued its “New gTLD Utilization Report” for November.
According to CSC the number of active” .brands new gTLD’s (those with five or more registrations) increased from October when there were 53 .brand new gTLD’s with five or more registrations to 75 in November, representing a 42% increase.

MyRescue.Dog Awards A Total of $100,000 to 16 Local Dog Shelters - Petfinder Foundation announced the winners of the MyRescue.dog fundraising campaign, a month-long effort to celebrate rescue dogs and raise funds for the shelters and rescue organizations that save them.

Famous Four Media Becomes 3rd New gTLD Registry To Pass 1 Million Domains - According to a Press Release out today, Famous Four Media has become the 3rd new gTLD registry to pass one million domain names.
Donuts was the first to hit 1,000,000 domain registrations but they offer well over 100 new domain extensions for sale.
.XYZ was the second registry to hit 1,000,000 domain names but they did that only on 1 new domain extension .XYZ.

ICANN’s guidelines for community sponsors and location names should be removed from new TLD process.
I’ve read the second version of the new TLD applicant guidebook from ICANN from cover to cover, and there’s one (OK, more than that) thing I still don’t understand: why are their special guidelines for “community” based TLDs and locations such as cities and states?
