Why we shouldn't go bananas over Banana.com domain name "sale" - There’s a good reason to be skeptical of a $2 million banana.com domain sale. Last month there was a bit of a stir in the domain name industry about the Chinese buying one word English domain names for huge sums. A domain name auction in China resulted in 5 domain name “sales” of $2 million or more USD: Banana.com, House.com, Yao.com, GG.com and HG.com. While GG.com and HG.com might seem plausible, $2 million for banana.com seemed like a ridiculously high price. Some were skeptical. As it ... read more ...

What domain names Time Inc. and others bought during a finish of a year - Time Inc. bought a sports domain name and Sears might start a site at Wash.in. Sedo turned in $2 million worth of domain name sales during the last two weeks of the year, a fairly high number of the holiday period. I think it was helped by a couple big sales, because $2 million is high for a transaction volume of just 648 domains. Some large companies bought domains, including Time and (I believe) Sears. Here’s a look at these end user domain name sales from the past week: (You can view previous ... read more ...

Owner of MakeAmericaGreatAgain.com Wants "$2 Million At Least" - Back in August we wrote about the domain name MakeAmericaGreatAgain.com which is has become Donald Trump’s famous tag line of the his 2016 Presidential run. The many respectful "no" I've ever perceived from a domain inquirer - One potential buyer didn’t get upset when I quoted him a price he couldn’t afford. Every domain name investor has dealt with angry people inquiring about buying domain names. You quote them a price; they tell you to flip off (or something along those lines). In the spirit of Christmas, I’d like to share a response I received last week after I quoted a $12,000 price for a domain name: Hi Andrew: Wow. I wish I could, but I can’t at that price. Thank you for your time. I congratulate you on ... read more ...

End user domain name sales adult to $50,000 - A “Merry Christmas” edition of the end user sales report. Sedo has changed its weekly sales disclosure to only include sales of $2,000 or less. Their median sales price is well below $2,000, so this means the volume of end user sales I can report is significantly lower. I’m going to work with Sedo to get additional data for this report going forward. But for this week–the last end user report of the year–I’ve discovered 11 end user sales of up to $50,000. Here’s a look at these end ... read more ...

Sedo has watched buy it now go from 2% to 56% - Sedo put together a graphic in their latest newsletter that chronicled buy it now sales. 2008 saw buy it now at just 2% now they are at 56% with numbers over 65% in recent weeks. Debates go back and forth about whether or not to list your names at buy it now or make an offer. There are pros and cons for both. The biggest con for buy it now is you will never hit that outlier homerun. You don’t know if it is Google hitting the buy it now or little Joe’s thrift shop. Sedo links adult with .EU whois to sell domains - Name not available? Whois searchers will now see if it’s for sale. EURid is now showing if a domain name is listed for sale at Sedo when someone does a whois lookup, and linking directly to the sale listing. This is a nifty deal. Keep in mind that full .eu whois records are only available at EURid’s website, so many people use the actual website to look up whois records. Now, if they see the domain is registered, they will be notified that it can still be obtained (see picture below). A couple ... read more ...

Sharks.TV, 420.agency and other End User domain name sales - A condo board, marijuana company and rugby site bought domain names last week. Is the low-hanging fruit in short domain names gone? 55 Three Letter .Com's From My Former Portfolio Sold & Buyer Is NOT From China - I just noticed that 55 three-letter domain names (LLL.com) that I sold as part of my portfolio to Godaddy/Afternic, which was announced a week ago Monday, have already been sold off and the biggest surprise maybe the buyer was not from China.
