Domain Madness Scores $150,000 - Domain Madness auction sells 25 domain names. Shortly after last week’s Domain Madness auction in Las Vegas ended, the Domain Consultant team disappeared for several hours while the rest of us drank whiskey and bowled. Where did they go? Apparently they weren’t done selling names. They worked the remaining domain names and struck deals (none for less than the auction reserves). All told, they increased the total sales from 16 to 25 out of 48 over the past ... read more ...

Let’s Increase a Size of “For Sale” Signs - Parked pages need to evolve into domain sales machines. It’s common wisdom that putting a notice on your parked domain name that it’s for sale likely decreases your pay-per-click click through rate. That’s part of the reason any “for sale” notices on parked pages are inconspicuous. With pay-per-click revenue down sharply, perhaps the equation is flipping so that it makes sense to make the sale notice bigger. If you have a domain that attracts 10 people ... read more ...

Rick Latona Auctions Extended Auction Ends Sunday - Extended auction from Phoenix Forum ends Sunday. Yesterday Domain Name Wire published an interview with Rick Latona about his live adult domain name auction at the Phoenix Forum. Although the auction failed to meet expectations, the silent online auction may pick up some of the slack. The auction, hosted at Proxibid, includes over 600 adult domain names. At the high ends are category killer domains such as XXX.com and WebCam.com, but there are also many names ... read more ...

What were you shooting for? Latona: We think the results were terrible and completely unacceptable. I take full responsibility and know that ... read more ...

Sedo Gets Results, Sells Results.com for $500,000 - Sedo sells Results.com domain name for $500k. I won’t have official numbers until tomorrow, but it looks like Sedo has had another great sales week. Sedo just tweeted that it sold Results.com for $500,000 and BabyShop.com for $85,000. Results.com shows a business coaching company, but that web site has been on the site since December. Only the e-mail address for the domain has changed in whois, which indicates payment has been received but the domain hasn’t ... read more ...

Vegas Baby, Vegas! - I’m off to Las Vegas for Domain Madness. Keeping up with all domain news it tough work. Here’s a case in point on how I’m taking one for the team. You know, sacrificing. So on Friday Adam Strong of Domain Consultant sends me an e-mail to tell me about the live version of Tuesday’s Domain Madness auction. Man, so you mean I have to go to Vegas for the event to cover it? And stay at the rinky-dink Palms hotel? What a sacrifice. I guess I need to do it ... read more ...

PaintballGuns.com Auction Attracts Attention during eBay - eBay domain name auction attracting lots of bids. It’s unusual for a good domain name to be auctioned on eBay, but an auction for PaintballGuns.com has topped $20,000 with just three days to go. There is a reserve on the domain name and no indication from the seller about what it is, which means the auction could be for naught. But the reserve has already been lowered once, and could be lowered again to strike a deal. So how much is this domain name worth? Fortunately ... read more ...

Dell Buys Adamo.com Domain Name - Dell decides it should use the domain name Adamo.com for its new computer. When Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) launched its sleek new laptop called Adamo it overlooked one important marketing issue: it didn’t own the domain name Adamo.com. As we reported last week, the domain name was owned by Tucows (AMEX: TCX) in its Yummy Names organization. Apparently Dell saw the error of its ways. Domain Name Wire has confirmed that the computer manufacturer purchased the domain ... read more ...

LAinsurance.com Sells for $100,000 - Detroit-based insurance agency shells out 6 figures for domain name. L.A. Insurance has purchased the domain name LAInsurance.com from NameMedia for $100,000. Although the number may seem high for a geo insurance domain name, this deal makes perfect sense for the buyer. (As it turns out, “L.A.” is not a geography to this company). L.A. insurance has 150 locations and currently uses the domain name LAInsuranceAgency.com. It’s no doubt that a number of its ... read more ...

Typo FAIL - An unwise typo domain purchase. This domain name auction, which concluded earlier today, begs two questions: 1. Do domain parkers click on ads when they accidentally stumble across a parked page? 2. Who would be stupid enough to shell out $2,250 on a domain that they’ll lose through arbitration? Update 3/23: I received a note from Sedo today that the transaction was canceled. With regards to the comments below about allowing sales like this to happen, my experience ... read more ...

2009 Guide to Bulk Uploading during Sedo and Afternic - Here’s how to bulk upload all of your domain names for sale to aftermarkets. You know that old lottery saying “You can’t win if you don’t play”? The same thing applies to domains. If you’re looking to sell them, you should list them on the major domain aftermarkets Sedo and Afternic where buyers can find them. I’ve written tutorials on how to do this at both Afternic (tutorial) and Sedo (tutorial) before, but I just refreshed my portfolio and went ... read more ...

Bido Reinstates Reserve Pricing (with a Catch) - Auction platform allows reserve priced domain listings, but there’s a fee if they don’t sell. In an effort to establish confidence with sellers and bring more premium inventory to its platform, Bido is allowing sellers to set reserve prices on their domain names. Part of my prediction was correct – you’ll pay a fee if you list a domain with a reserve that doesn’t sell. If Bido selects a domain you submit with a reserve, you’ll pay a listing fee of 3% ... read more ...

Live Current Media Sells Body.com for $400,000 - Company sells another domain name to raise cash. The domain liquidation at Live Current Media (OTCbb: livc.ob) continues: a reader spotted the sale of Body.com at Sedo’s Great Domains site for $400,000. That means Live Current has grossed at least $2M from domain sales since announcing in October it would sell domain names to raise cash (assuming one more planned deal goes through). First it sold a domain — most likely Malaysia.com — for CAD $500,000. Then ... read more ...

Sedo Sells $1.25M Domains in One Week, Top.com Tops Them All - The domain name aftermarket is back with a vengeance. Perhaps it’s just a blip on the radar, but the domain name aftermarket appears to be popping back into action. Last week online broker Sedo closed nearly $1.25M USD in disclosed transactions (you can bet the non-disclosed transactions tacks on quite a bit). The top sale was Top.com for $357,500 EUR (about $455,000 USD), an auction Domain Name Wire reported on in January. The buyer was in Russia. The seller’s ... read more ...

Moniker Limits Submissions for Apr Domain Name Auction - Moniker limits domain submissions to 250 and provides additional guidelines. Responding to results and criticism of recent live domain name auctions, Moniker is setting a limit to auction submissions to April’s TRAFFIC auction.
