Claim.com Domain Name Sells for $80,000 -
NameMedia sells Claim.com for $80,000.
NameMedia, parent company of BuyDomains and Afternic, has completed the sale of Claim.com for $80,000. The buyer is unknown but appears to have used domain financing service Domain Capital to complete the transaction.
Claim.com was just one of over 400 reported domain names NameMedia sold last week. Many of the domain names the company sells are subject to non-disclosure agreements, so the total sales numbers are much higher. ... read more ...

Bido Needs to Improve Domain Quality — Fast -
After $2 auction, platform needs to step up quality fast or users will lose interest.
I love Bido.
There. I said it. Bido is an imaginative auction platform. It’s the first truly social domain auction platform. Stop by the site during auction hour and you can join a discussion. Prior to bidding you can read what other people have said about the domain. It’s fun and engaging.
There’s just one problem: the domains up for auction stink. And I’m not the ... read more ...

Toys ‘R’ Us, Frank Schilling Among Bidders to Pay $1.35M or More for Toys.com -
6 companies to bid in Friday’s Toys.com auction.
In a review of qualified bid documents, Domain Name Wire has discovered some familiar faces in Friday’s auction of Toys.com: Frank Schilling, National A-1 Advertising, and Toys ‘R’ Us to name a few. It’s clear that the press coverage of the original auction brought more bidders out of the woodwork.
Most of the bidders submitted an initial bid of $1.35M, as I predicted. But it’s clear the auction will ... read more ...

Bido Sells FixedLoans.com for $5,459 -
Famed domain name sells for $5,459.
The domain name that brought down Bido.com — FixedLoans.com — has helped the auction service get back on the radar. Just moments ago the domain name sold for $5,459.
FixedLoans.com attracted a lot of attention in August of last year, and the auction eventually caused Bido’s servers to crash. The company decided to take some time off to make the platform more scalable. In previous auctions bidding topped $5,000 before crashing. ... read more ...

Domain Name Auction Picks Were 82% Accurate -
My picks for the Aftermarket.com auction were right 82% of the time.
I used a stunningly complex methodology to pick the winners in yesterday’s Aftermarket.com auction at Domainer Mardi Gras: I made a gut call on whether or not someone would bid on the name. Yep, that’s it. No complex algorithms. No looking up advertiser or traffic counts. Just making a call.
I was right 82% of the time. I underestimated the number of domains that would sell. I predicted ... read more ...

NameMedia provides data on the SMB end user market for domain names.
Earlier this month I reported that the median sales price for domain names at Sedo last year was $500. I pointed out that this number represents a mix between end user sales and investor sales.
If you’re looking for a better number for the small and medium business end user market, look no further. NameMedia, which focuses on the SMB end user market through BuyDomains and other market channels, ... read more ...

Is It Time to Suspend a Live Domain Name Auction? -
Results from DOMAINfest beg the question.
The advent of the live domain name auction has given the domain name industry a huge boost in both high dollar investor purchases and media attention. Two years ago in New York, Moniker’s live domain name auction topped $10 million in sales.
Last month in Los Angeles, the live domain auction brought in only $800,000 over two nights selling 110 domain names. It wasn’t a big surprise given the economy and what’s going ... read more ...

Low Quality 3 Letter Domain Names Hit Hard Times -
Recent sales at Sedo show scarcity is less important than potential use.
Domain names aren’t like baseball cards. Just because something is scarce doesn’t mean it’s more valuable.
This week’s completed sales of three letter domain names at Sedo show weakness in low quality three letter domain names:
MWX.com $4,000
FGZ.com $4,000
VZJ.com $3,499
JQF.com $3,333
This parallels a fad in the domain market during 2008. Because all four character .com domain names ... read more ...

IREIT/NameJet Proves Domains Are Liquid Assets - The sell of of IREIT domains continues over at NameJet.com this week.
What’s lost in the story is the fact that this strategy by IREIT to sell their domains in this fashion, all starting at a $69 reserve is that domain names are in fact a Liquid investment.
The debate has raged for quite a while are domains liquid assets, that is can they be sold and turned into cash quickly if they need to be.
After watching IREIT domains selling on NameJet for decent prices the answer is YES.
