Domain Registration on Record Pace? Over 750K Added Yesterday Alone - Registrations of domain names seem to be going on at a record pace.
Yesterday saw the number of domain registrations across all Top Level Domain (TLD) names have a net add of over 750,000 domains according to registrarstats.com
“Net Add” mean its the amount of domains registered less the number of domain names deleted.
The gross numbers of domain names registered yesterday were close to 900,000.

CENTR Reports There Are 311.5 Million Domains In The World -
According to a new report out today (PDF) by CENTR, which is the European country code TLD organisation, as of December 31, there are 311.5 million domain names in the world.
158.7 million domain names are Legacy TLD’s including .com, .net and .org; 140.1 million are ccTLD’s (country codes), 1.6 Million are IDN ccTLD’s, and 10.9 Million are New gTLD’s.

The Number of .Com Domains Top 124 Million For The First Time - According to Verisign the number of the .Com domain names has crossed the 124 million mark for the first time today.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, the base of registered names in .com equaled 115.6 million names.

Owner of MakeAmericaGreatAgain.com Wants "$2 Million At Least" - Back in August we wrote about the domain name MakeAmericaGreatAgain.com which is has become Donald Trump’s famous tag line of the his 2016 Presidential run.
At the time we noted that although “The Donald filed a trademark on the term back in November 2012, the trademark was filed for opposition in 2013 and not finally granted until July, 14th 2015.

CentralNic Buys Registrar Instra.com & Stock is Down Almost 20% - CentralNic (LON:CNIC) is buying privately-owned domain name registrar, Instra Group, funded in part from a £10mln placing of stock with investors at 40p a share, for almost £16mln (A$33mln).
According to the press release “the purchase will extend CentralNic’s capabilities and “significantly increase” its retail offering.”
According to the press release Instra in the year to June 30 posted pre-tax profits of just over £1mln (A$2.1mln) on turnover of £7.11mln (A$14.8mln).

Paul Vixie, Member Internet Hall of Fame: "New gTLD module is a Money Grab & Mistake" - Dr Paul Vixie, a member of the Internet Hall of Fame has called the new gTLD program a money grab and a mistake and called out ICANN for allowing it to happen saying it “indicates corruption.”

.Org Adds 130K Registrations, Tops 10.5 Million: Registrants In China Own 3.2% - Public Interest Registry, the not-for-profit operator of the .org, .ngo and .ong domains, today released the results of its bi-annual domain name report “The Dashboard.”
The .Org domain name extension, added 130,865 additional registrations over the last 12 months, bringing the total domains under management (DUM) to 10,547,247.

Publicly Traded Co. Registers 44 Domains Calling Donald Trump a Bully Among Other Things - Symform, Inc. which was acquired by Quantum Corporation for $500,000 in 2014, registered 44 domain names at corporate domain name registrar MarkMonitor according to whois records yesterday, all relating to US presidential candidate Donald Trump in less than a flattering fashion.
Quantum Corporation is a publicly traded company on NYSE: QTM
Qauntum has a market cap of $207 Million. Both Symform and Quantum seem to be in the cloud storage business.

Google's Alphabet Inc. Announcement Fires Up .com / .net Registrations - As we noted earlier today over 6,000 .XYZ new gTLD domain names were registered yesterday, after Google Inc. announced it’s holding company Alphabet Inc., using the domain name ABC.XYZ.
It is interesting though, as Mike pointed out that of the 6,000 newly registered .xyz domains registered yesterday hundreds of them related to ABC, Alphabet and XYZ.
I wanted to compare that to .com / .net domain registrations relating to those three terms.

Trending keywords in .com: Gay, Zone, Buzz - Used, Gay, and three keywords matching new TLDS make the list.
Verisign has published its monthly “trending keywords” report, highlighting the keywords making the biggest jump from the May to June in .com domain name registrations.
“Used” was number one for the month. According to Verisign DomainView, there was a big spike in “used” domains registered or renewed on June 30. Over 1,700 .com domains were registered/renewed.
