China DDoS attack shows not all TLD servers equally secure - The distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that took down a portion of China's Internet over the weekend demonstrates that the strength of the global network varies greatly across domains.
Servers running China's ".cn" top level domain (TLD) came under attack Sunday starting at about 2 a.m. Eastern time. New registry agreements don’t include URS, but do include 10% annual price hikes.
ICANN’s Board of Directors approved the renewal of contracts for .org, .biz, and .info last week.
The board declined to add a provision to the contracts that could require the registry operators to add Uniform Rapid Suspension in the future. The Intellectual Property Constituency had asked ICANN to add this provision, arguing that adding it later may be part of a messy policy process.

Chinese websites go down as massive DDOS attack hits its .cn domain - Early Sunday morning, the Chinese government says that it faced what is described as the largest Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that the country has ever seen. The attackers targeted China's Top Level Domain (TLD) .cn and effectively took down all Chinese websites using the .cn TLD.
