21 village objections have been decided. So distant it’s unpredictable. - It’s difficult to predict the outcome of community objections. As of yesterday the International Chamber of Commerce had published 21 community objection decisions. Objectors have won just four of the cases. Time for new top level domain applicants to rejoice? Hardly. Much like string confusion objections, community objection decisions and how panelists arrive at their decisions are proving to be inconsistent. Sina tops Tencent in conflict over Weibo tip turn domain names - Panel handles tricky case involving what many consider a generic term. In a heavyweight battle of Chinese internet stars, Sina Corporation has won two objections it lodged against Tencent for the top level domain names .微博 and .weibo. Sina and Tencent were the only applicants for .weibo and .微博, so the contention set has been settled. I’m not so sure about the outcome of these Legal Rights Objections. But my feelings echo dissenting panelist Matthew Harris, ... read more ...

How String Confusion Objections Became a Clusterf@ck - There are a number of reasons for contradictory String Confusion Objections for top level domain names. The guy in the middle got the right panelist.Of the four types of objections that could be lodged against new top level domain name applications, it would seem that string confusion objections would be the most basic. Is one string confusingly similar to another? Yet, while most people (other than the losers) haven’t had issues with Legal Rights Objections, there ... read more ...

Here’s how new TLD objections work - An explanation of new top level domain objections. Yesterday I wrote about a number of objections filed against new top level domain applications. I also explained the four types of objections. So just how do these objections work? In a lot of ways they are modeled after UDRP, except the fees are higher and there’s more flexibility. There’s also no precedent to go on, either, which is no small matter. Similar to UDRP, ICANN has set its own rules for Dispute Resolution ... read more ...

Objection! What objections opposite Donuts’ TLDs uncover us about a subsequent proviso of a new TLD game - An early look at new TLD objections shows some questionable claims.
