dotMobi to Enforce Compliance Rules for Premium Domains (Eventually) - dotMobi says it will start to enforce guidelines for domains won at auction. In June I wrote a second article about premium dotMobi domain names that were won at auctions at Sedo. At the time, not a single domain won at the first Sedo auction was in compliance. Compliance basically requires a dotMobi compatible parking page followed by a mobile web site within 6 months. Although it’s not surprising that few of the domains had real web sites within 6 months, ... read more ...

Google Chrome Domain Names - Google remained tight-lipped about its new browser. So who registered GoogleChrome.com a month ago? By now you’ve probably read that Google is releasing a web browser called Google Chrome. Perhaps you’re feeling the same way I am: great, one more browser to optimize for. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) did a good job keeping the lid on its browser announcement. There have been rumors of a Google browser for many years, in part because the domain name GBrowser.com was ... read more ...

Be Wary of Used.com and Penny.com Auctions during Sedo - “Meet the seller” shows these auctions may be bogus. I was excited to see that Used.com and Penny.com were on auction at Sedo today. These are both six figure domains. But my excitement was tempered after looking at the “meet the seller” data on the auctions. “Meet the seller” is a new feature Sedo introduced this week. It allows you to see details about the seller of a domain, including their country, when they joined Sedo, and a rating of their activity. ... read more ...

Domain name aftermarket Sedo has revamped how domain details pages look to personalize transactions. The changes add information about the seller of the domain, including how much activity the seller has participated in as a seller on Sedo. This is helpful for domain buyers tired of placing offers and not receiving a response. Once negotiations begin between seller and buyer, the seller will ... read more ...

Sedo Completes Website.org Sale for 20,500 EUR - .Org, .info lead sales at Sedo this week It’s not often that a domain name sales venue’s top sale is a .org or .info domain name, but that was the case this week at Sedo. Sedo Sells InsuranceLeads.com for $50,000 - Another strong week for Sedo sales. Sedo finalized the sale of InsuranceLeads.com last week for $50,000. The leads business is huge, and insurance leads are one of the most popular categories. Leads companies gather leads from search engine marketing (including PPC) and affiliate networks and resell these to insurance agents, repair companies, real estate agents, etc. I think this will be a solid buy for ITSOL, a California-based leads company. An example of a ... read more ...

Recap: Domain Name Auction Firestorm - Here’s a look back at the firestorm that hit domain auctions over the past two weeks. It’s been a busy week at Domain Name Wire. And perhaps a busier week for GoDaddy. Here’s a run down of what took place and what it means for the industry. It all started when a reader tipped me off to a thread at NamePros. The thread started out benign and was simply about the number of .us domain names going through auction at GoDaddy’s TDNAM and the high prices they ... read more ...
