GoDaddy has sold the domain name BusinessTube.com through its Go Daddy Auctions (aka TDNAM) platform for $25,000. The domain name was registered back in 2006 and just purchased by a California man. Here are some other sales Go Daddy made in the past two weeks: PianoPlace.com $9,500 GarageBuilders.com ... read more ...

GoDaddy Brings Humor to Company Mistakes - The Go Daddy Group CEO Bob Parsons brings a laugh to last year’s controversial issues. Last week I saw in my RSS reader that GoDaddy had published its latest Bob Parsons video blog including his “ding dong” awards for the past year. I assumed that he wouldn’t bring up some of GoDaddy’s own “ding dongs”. But over the weekend I had a chance to watch the video, and was delighted to see Parsons included GoDaddy employees bidding at TDNAM auctions and Standard ... read more ...

Go Daddy To Shut Down Standard Tactics, LLC - Standard Tactics and 60-day lock discussed on Radio Go Daddy. I just concluded my interview with Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons on his internet radio show. It is available for on demand listening RadioGoDaddy.com. Perhaps the biggest news that came out of the interview is that GoDaddy is effectively shutting down Standard Tactics. Parsons said it had about 33,000 domains in the subsidiary and 8,000 that made most of the money. This is lower than I privately estimated ... read more ...

GoDaddy Changes Expired Domain Pricing - In response to Standard Tactics coverage, GoDaddy has changed starting bids on TDNAM auctions. Last week I mentioned that GoDaddy was making a change to its TDNAM auctions based on some of my commentary on Standard Tactics. In my commentary I had suggested that, by setting minimum bid prices higher than the standard $10 bid price, GoDaddy was effectively bidding against its customers on TDNAM. In response, GoDaddy has changed how it prices expired domains. All domains ... read more ...

Domain Name Auction Sites Need to Go Mobile - Placing a last second bid on a mobile phone is difficult. I’ve been watching the auction of 529.org on Sedo all week. As you may know, I own a web site related to 529 plans, so 529.org would be a great pickup for me. The auction ended at noon central time yesterday. I had a lunch meeting at the same time, so I decided I’d just login on my phone to place the bid. That didn’t work out so well. (I’m not a fan of leaving high proxy bids ahead of time, as ... read more ...

Recap: Domain Name Auction Firestorm - Here’s a look back at the firestorm that hit domain auctions over the past two weeks. It’s been a busy week at Domain Name Wire. And perhaps a busier week for GoDaddy. Here’s a run down of what took place and what it means for the industry. It all started when a reader tipped me off to a thread at NamePros. The thread started out benign and was simply about the number of .us domain names going through auction at GoDaddy’s TDNAM and the high prices they ... read more ...

GoDaddy Bans Employees from Bidding on TDNAM - Domain registrar changes policy on employee bidding. GoDaddy has changed its policy on employees bidding in TDNAM domain name auctions after a firestorm erupted last week (and over the weekend). Domain Name Wire’s original story, which was based on a thread from NamePros and additional information from a reader, put a hot topic in the limelight. At first it was confined to the domain name industry, but over the weekend the story appeared on Slashdot, Ycombinator, ... read more ...

GoDaddy TDNAM Starts “Buy Now” Expired Domain Auctions - Expired domain auctions now have option to buy domains immediately. GoDaddy’s domain name aftermarket TDNAM has added a new wrinkle to its expired domain auctions. Bidders can now buy expired domain names immediately instead of bidding. Once someone bids on a domain, the “buy now” option goes away. The “buy now” option is not available on all expired domain auctions, and appears to only be on auctions with starting prices of $20 or more. The “buy now” ... read more ...

Survey: SnapNames Still King of Expired Domain Names - Despite a turbulent year, SnapNames is still #1 for expired domains. 37% of respondents in Domain Name Wire’s third annual domain survey use SnapNames more often than other expired domain catching services. This is the third year in a row that SnapNames had led the charts, despite a very challenging year for the service. After being acquired by Oversee.net, SnapNames lost key registrars Network Solutions and eNom. The two registrars formed a competing drop catcher ... read more ...
