GoDaddy is asking customers to vote on which ad should show during the Super Bowl.

GoDaddy Brings Humor to Company Mistakes -
The Go Daddy Group CEO Bob Parsons brings a laugh to last year’s controversial issues.
Last week I saw in my RSS reader that GoDaddy had published its latest Bob Parsons video blog including his “ding dong” awards for the past year. I assumed that he wouldn’t bring up some of GoDaddy’s own “ding dongs”. But over the weekend I had a chance to watch the video, and was delighted to see Parsons included GoDaddy employees bidding at TDNAM auctions and Standard ... read more ...

GoDaddy Donates $1.7 Million to Charity -
GoDaddy tops last year’s giving by $300,000.
With all of the negative news I’ve written about Go Daddy this year, it’s nice to end the year on an up note. Today the company announced that its total philanthropic giving for the year is $1.7M, topping last year’s $1.4M in giving. That’s about $1,000 per employee, a very respectable number.
Go Daddy supports a number of non-profits from local (Phoenix Children’s Hospital) to international (Make A Wish ... read more ...

The Perils of Trying to Go Public -
NameMedia’s withdrawn IPO more painful than it looks.
It may appear that NameMedia’s decision last week to to drop its planned initial public offering is just a temporary setback. Aside from the costs of filing its S-1 to go public, going on the investor roadshow, and obliging quite period regulations, did it really cost the company anything? The answer is yes. And it’s not the time, money, or decreased morale that hurts the most. It’s the disclosure.

Go Daddy To Shut Down Standard Tactics, LLC -
Standard Tactics and 60-day lock discussed on Radio Go Daddy.
I just concluded my interview with Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons on his internet radio show. It is available for on demand listening RadioGoDaddy.com.
Perhaps the biggest news that came out of the interview is that GoDaddy is effectively shutting down Standard Tactics. Parsons said it had about 33,000 domains in the subsidiary and 8,000 that made most of the money. This is lower than I privately estimated ... read more ...

GoDaddy Changes Expired Domain Pricing -
In response to Standard Tactics coverage, GoDaddy has changed starting bids on TDNAM auctions.
Last week I mentioned that GoDaddy was making a change to its TDNAM auctions based on some of my commentary on Standard Tactics. In my commentary I had suggested that, by setting minimum bid prices higher than the standard $10 bid price, GoDaddy was effectively bidding against its customers on TDNAM.
In response, GoDaddy has changed how it prices expired domains. All domains ... read more ...

Domain Name Wire on Go Daddy Radio Show -
I’ll have an open talk with Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons next week.
I’ve written a lot of good things about domain registrar GoDaddy over the past few years. But I’ve also called the company out numerous times when it did no-so-good things: such as Standard Tactics.
Yesterday Go Daddy CEO Bob Parsons called me to talk about Standard Tactics and invite me to be his guest on next week’s Radio GoDaddy show. I accepted the offer.

Analysis of Go Daddy’s Standard Tactics subsidiary.UPDATE 12/17/08: GoDaddy is shutting down Standard Tactics.
It’s been five days since Domain Name Wire published its expose on The Go Daddy Group’s subsidiary Standard Tactics LLC. Judging from the over 100 comments, it appears to have struck a nerve in a lot of people. Interestingly, I received some feedback that people “disagreed” with my story. This is interesting because there really aren’t any ... read more ...

GoDaddy Increases Default Registration Period to 5 Years -
Be careful as you click through checkout on GoDaddy.
If you’re used to quickly clicking through the GoDaddy checkout process to register domains, be warned: the default registration period has changed to 5 years. The graphic below shows the default when I tried to register the domain RegisteringDomainsForMultipleYears.com.

.Tel Has Benefits, But Many Challenges -
In an interview with Telnic, I learned more about the top level domain and its benefits.
The first time I wrote about .tel was back in 2006 when it was approved by ICANN. I wasn’t a big fan of it back then. I wrote about it again earlier this week, and said I still think this domain extension is a longshot.
Earlier today I talked with Justin Hayward, communications director for .tel backer Telnic. My general opinion is the same, but there are some ways, if executed ... read more ...

But as in many cases, MakeUseOf.com blamed GoDaddy for losing its domain when it wasn’t the company’s fault. In a blog post on blogger and another one on its site, MakeUseOf.com pins the ... read more ...

DBS: Domain Name Sales Up -
Domain name company sees robust domain names sales.
I’ve written several times about how Dark Blue Sea (ASX: DBS.AX), parent company of Fabulous, has seen a massive drop in domain parking revenue. But what I haven’t highlighted is growth in the company’s domain sales. I’ve dismissed it somewhat because its latest financial year’s sales include a couple large portfolio sales. But the numbers are too much to ignore.

GoDaddy Parking Page Customization: $99 -
New service seems wildly overpriced. Am I missing something?
I just read GoDaddy’s October sales letter (not really a newsletter as they call it), and read the fine print on the 20% off $75 coupon it offered. One of the exclusions is for “CashParking Custom Header“. Curious, I visited the GoDaddy web site to learn more.
Essentially, GoDaddy will create a custom header for your parked domain. Price? $99.
Am I missing something here? First, GoDaddy is the ... read more ...

Even if domain registration rates remain strong, registrars that over leveraged themselves, created inefficient organizations, ... read more ...
