At slightest 38 domains will sell in Dotster auction finale tomorrow - Nearly half of domains in auction have already hit their reserves. It’s genuinely refreshing to see a domain name auction with good quality mid-market domain names and reasonable reserves. That’s how I’d describe the current Dotster auction on SnapNames. With just 24 hours to go, the auction looks like it will be a big success. I count 38 domain names that have met their reserve already. That’s nearly half of the 81 listings. This shouldn’t come as a huge ... read more ...

Dotster moves domains to Domain.com credentials - Company transfers domains between registrar accreditations. If you start to see domain name registrar Domain.com growing in registrar ranking reports, there’s a good explanation for that. Dotster, which owns Domain.com, has transferred the domain names from its Dotster accreditation to the Domain.com one. I was alerted to this change when I received a DomainTools whois change alert on a friend’s domain name that I helped her register. My first thought was that ... read more ...

The Worst Domain Name Promotion of All Time - Whatever happened to the Dotster Dots? There have been a lot of bad stunts, publicity attempts, and ads put out by domain name registrars. In 2006, Dotster took a look at what had happened in the domain name industry since 2000 and saw that ... read more ...

In what should have been a lackluster week thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday, Sedo turned in one of its best performances of the year for domain sales. Leading the pack was a sale you’ve probably read about already, Russia.com at $1.5 million. The buyer wants to remain anonymous, and is using GoDaddy’s whois protection to shield their identity. The domain currently points to a basic GoDaddy parking page. Another ... read more ...

Sedo Acquires RevenueDirect and Why It Makes Sense - Sedo has acquired RevenueDirect, Dotster’s domain name parking service. Sedo has acquired domain name parking company RevenueDirect. For established domain parking companies, acquiring another domain parking company usually doesn’t make sense. Parking companies rarely have long term contracts with customers, so the acquirer risks seeing acquired customers leaving the ship after a takeover. But this acquisition makes sense for a couple reasons: U.S. Dominance: ... read more ...
