Is This The Domain With The Longest Registration Date? SMITHSONIAN.US Expires 2102 - Here is new one on me.
A domain name that doesn’t expire until the next century.
The domain name is Smithsonian.us and it is as you would expect owned by the Smithsonian Institution of Washington.
The domain is not registered through a registrar, but instead is still showing as being registered through NeuStar the company that operates the .US registry under license of the United States Government.
I didn’t know that a domain name could be registered without a domain name registrar, but that ... read more ...

Why Is Neustar Allowing Nicaragua To Use A .US Doman for Their Offical Visitor Site? - I saw a full page ad in a travel magazine a few weeks ago for the website VisitNicaragua.us.
It was a very nice full color ad which promoted the country as a great tourist destination.
The domain name is registered to the Nicaraguan Tourism Board and whose registered address on the whois records is in Nicaragua
My first thought that it is stupid domain for the official travel site of a country to use domain name in the ccTLD of other country.
After all .US is the ccTLD for the United States and ... read more ...

I’m sure this will piss off a whole group of folks who invest in .US domains, but looking through the Snapnames.com .US domain auction closing tomorrow , July 8th at 3:15pm, I couldn’t help but notice that Slots.Us is at auction with a reserve of $58,830 or roughly 1% of what the .com just sold for, or just over 25% of what Slots.ca just sold for.

Moniker Auction Results: 30 .Us Domain Name Sell -
US country code auction sells over $40,000 worth of domain names.
[Updated: the official tally is 30 domains sold. I originally reported 29 domains sold.] Moniker’s .us domain name auction sold 29 30 of 86 domain names, or 35%. That’s a much stronger showing than recent online auctions held by the company. The key to success was a lot of good keyword domain names with low reserves. Having them at prices most people can afford helped, too.

GoDaddy Playing Hardball with NeuStar? -
Pricing at GoDaddy for NeuStar’s .us and .biz domains is oddly high.
In February I wrote about GoDaddy’s price increase for .biz domain names. The registrar was charging $14.99 for .biz domain names, even though its wholesale cost at the registry is about the same as .com domain names (which GoDaddy sells for $9.99). It appeared that GoDaddy was just trying to make some extra profit.
But a couple weeks ago a friend pointed out that I may have missed the boat ... read more ...
