If you’ve already submitted domains to the TrafficZ auction taking place at TRAFFIC next month in New York, you should consider adding descriptions to each of your domains. (If you haven’t yet submitted domains, here’s a quick tutorial.) The process for adding descriptions is fairly simple. Log in to your auction manager at ... read more ...

Rick Latona has announced on his blog that he will be auctioning domains at September’s TRAFFIC conference in New York. Moniker To Get Auction Competition during TRAFFIC Shows - Multiple live auction companies to host auctions at event. I’m sure there’s a backstory on this, but Rick Schwartz, who co-produces the TRAFFIC domain name conferences, just sent out an e-mail announcing that Moniker will no longer be the exclusive provider of domain auctions at his conferences. For the first time at any domain show we are going to have multiple live auctions presented by multiple auction houses. This is going to be a game changer! Howard and ... read more ...

Israel.com Has NOT Sold - Erroneous reports suggested domain name sold over the weekend. A number of erroneous reports hit the wire this morning that Israel.com sold for $5.88 million. I just got off the phone with Moniker’s CEO Monte Cahn and he told me these reports were incorrect and the domain name is still for sale. Apparently the rumors started when a publication, perhaps “TheMarker” or Haaretz, saw the reserve price in the Moniker silent auction and assumed that was a winning ... read more ...

The big name in Sedo’s auction is America.com, which is currently at $1,050,000 and hasn’t met its reserve. Diamantes.com is at EUR 250,000 and also hasn’t met its reserve. Final Thoughts on TRAFFIC East - A look back at the latest TRAFFIC domain name show. I’ve read a few blog posts this weekend from people giving their opinion on the TRAFFIC show that just concluded in Orlando. Of course, half of these bloggers weren’t even there, so I don’t know how they can pass judgment on the show. I’m going to give you my thoughts, up to the time I left Friday afternoon during the auction. (After that point my experience went downhill, since a bellman at the Grand Floridian ... read more ...

Overheard during TRAFFIC - Here’s a quick summary of what’s gone on at TRAFFIC the past 24 hours. The mood at TRAFFIC is somewhat subdued right now, but that may be the massive hangover from last night’s TrafficZ party. A lot of beer was consumed and things didn’t settle down until four in the morning. This morning several domain investors and service providers discussed the fallout of pay-per-click and parked page revenue and what can be done to diversify. The session started off ... read more ...

Second Day of TRAFFIC Conference Kicks Off - Initial domain auction goes well, second day kicks off. Last night more than 150 people packed the exhibit hall at TRAFFIC for a welcome cocktail party. The mood wasn’t quite as upbeat as previous conferences. There’s looming fear of attacks on the domain name industry and the downward pressure of domain parking revenue spoiling the mood. That said, the business is still strong and the low reserve/no reserve auction last night went well. 16 domains traded ... read more ...

TRAFFIC Does Disney - Domain name conference lands at Disney World next week. The domain industry descends on Disney World next week as the popular T.R.A.F.F.I.C. domain conference arrives May 20. This should be an exciting show, in part because many of the industry’s top companies (Moniker, Parked.com, etc) have offices in Florida. It doesn’t hurt that the show is at Disney and is hosted at the top resort in the park. I will be at the show and on a couple panels. Additionally, ... read more ...

Not Everyone Will Be Welcome during TRAFFIC East - Don’t take the headline too literally. Read on. I just booked my plane tickets to this month’s TRAFFIC conference at Disney World. It should be a great event with wonderful surroundings. But there are handful of people who probably won’t be welcome at this event: Disney cybersquatters. “Disney” is certainly one of the most cybersquatted brands. In particular, typosquatting is rampant because many of the people looking for Disney sites are kids. A quick ... read more ...

TRAFFIC Down Under Preview - A preview of TRAFFIC’s upcoming Australia show. The popular TRAFFIC domain name conference heads to Australia this year for the first TRAFFIC Down Under November 18-20. Big Day for Online Domain Name Auctions - Sedo and Moniker auctions end today. Sedo’s February Great Domains auction and Moniker’s TRAFFIC silent auction both end today. Will the industry be cheering at the end of the day, or will the results be a dissapointment? Pressure is on both companies to perform. Sedo’s auctions start ending at 2PM EST today. Sedo is under pressure to perform after its GeoDomains auction. The GeoDomains auction attracted noteworthy bids, but few domains hit their reserves. ... read more ...

Survey Focus: Which Major Domain Conference is Best? - Survey asks domainers to pick the best domain conference. TRAFFIC, Domain Roundtable, DomainFEST, GeoDomain…which is best? Moniker Auction Nets $4.4 Million, SkiResorts.com sells for $850,000 - Moniker’s live domain auction ends with mixed results. If tonight’s domain name auction was a barometer for the domain industry, we know nothing more than we did before the auction began. The results were, well, mediocre. Before it began, I set a personal range for the auction. Anything less than $4 million would be a failure, anything greater than $6M would be a success. The auction ended up squarely in the middle, with $4.4 million changing hands (including ... read more ...

For the first time ever, the TRAFFIC domain conference this week in Las Vegas includes two rounds of live auction. The first round, which took place last night, included low- and no- reserve domains. Moniker tallied $191,550 in sales on 73 names with a median price of $1,050. There were 83 names in the auction. The results looks solid, although many of these domains could have sold ... read more ...

February T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Auction Could Be Record-Setting - First cut at premium domain names looks promising. It’s been six months since Moniker and TRAFFIC teamed up to shatter a domain name auction record, selling over $10M in domains in an afternoon. Since that time no auctions have come close to this record. After reviewing the first cut of premium domains for next month’s TRAFFIC conference in Las Vegas, it looks like this one can shatter the previous record. There’s a big caveat though: it depends on the reserves ... read more ...
