December Domain Names for Sale -
Frequent Domain Name Wire readers know that I rarely, if ever, post my personal domain names for sale on the site. But I’ve decided to give it a one time try to see if there’s any interest.
The domain names below were registered as far back as 1997. Many of the .com’s have corresponding .net and .org domain names registered by other companies, and some of those are in use.
Although the domains are listed below in a range, just send an email to me at andrew ... read more ...

ClimateGate.com Domain Name Sells -
Domain name for controversial “Climategate” sells.
Have you heard about the so-called “ClimateGate” yet? It has been all the buzz in the worldwide media over the past few weeks. It basically involves some not-so-ethical scientists trying to massage climate data to fit their needs.
When the scandal broke, I immediately checked on the domain name. The domain was registered way back in January 2008, long before the current scandal occurred. But the owner ... read more ...

Contacting a Big Company That Owns a .Net Domain Name -
Can a good domain name sales technique to small businesses work with a big one?
In August I wrote about a successful end user domain sales strategy I’ve employed. Basically, you look up domains you registered a couple years ago to see if anyone has registered the .net, .org, or other version of the .com domain you registered. Presumably they wanted the .com, but settled for something else because you already owned it. These people are very targeted buyers for ... read more ...

Blockbusters: Russia.com Sells for $1.5 Million, Marchex Sells Dominio.com for $250,000 -
Two big domain name sales over holiday week.
In what should have been a lackluster week thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday, Sedo turned in one of its best performances of the year for domain sales. Leading the pack was a sale you’ve probably read about already, Russia.com at $1.5 million. The buyer wants to remain anonymous, and is using GoDaddy’s whois protection to shield their identity. The domain currently points to a basic GoDaddy parking page.

$66,001 e.Biz Sale Closes -
.biz takes the top spot for the week…sort of.
“The top sale at Sedo this past week was a .biz domain name.”
I never thought I’d have the chance to write that. And I’m not being entirely truthful by writing it. The $66,001 sale of e.Biz claims the highest “number” for the week, but when you convert the 49,000 EUR sale of i.de to U.S. dollars, .de claims the top spot.
But let’s not ruin the moment.
We still don’t know who the buyer of e.biz is ... read more ...

Taking a $62,500 Risk on SearchEngineOptimization.net -
Man buys .net domain name for $62,500 with big plans.
Some people like to talk big. Patrick Gavin is putting his money where his mouth is.
The founder of Text-Link-Ads.com just plunked down $62,500 for SearchEngineOptimization.net at BuyDomains. It’s a steep price for a domain who’s .org version sold for just $750 back in 2006. But Gavin has a plan, and he’s going to let the world watch him succeed or fail.
Gavin plans to turn the web site into a learning ... read more ...

A Big Thumbs Up for BargainDomains.com -
New web site from Domaining.com is very promising.

The premise is simple: you can list your domains for sale on BargainDomains.com for a maximum of 30% of the appraisal price on sister site Valuate.com.

SnapNames’ monthly domain name auction has kicked off and will conclude next Tuesday, November 17. The monthly auctions used to last only a few days, so it looks like SnapNames is trying a different tact.

Domain Owners Should Learn Lesson About Leaving Money on a Table -
Deal or no deal? eNom leaves money on the table.
Back in February I made an offer on a domain at AcquireThisName.com, an eNom affiliate. It wasn’t a great name, just a brandable that a friend was interested in. eNom wanted $6,000; my friend’s final offer was $400 since we were so far off.
Flash forward to November and eNom is letting the domain drop, likely to earn little or nothing for the domain it could have had $400 or more for. Here’s an email I received ... read more ...

Domain Auctions: Chill Out, But Let’s Re-examine -
It’s time to step back and re-evaluate domain name auctions.
The news today about an employee bidding at SnapNames is certainly disappointing. So here’s my take on what the domain industry should do.
First, chill out. I’ve seen a bunch of comments today from people that now assume everyone who ever beat them in an auction is a fake bidder or scammer. Look, there are a lot of people out there who bid at the last second, bid in a lot of auctions, and bid to ... read more ...

PokerBonus.com Domain Name Sells for $85,000 -
Gambling domain takes top spot for the week.
There were no six figure sales at Sedo this past week, but the broker still scored some big sales. Number one on the list is PokerBonus.com at $85,000. The domain’s whois record has been protected by a private registration for much of the past few years, but last month a public record showed that the domain was owned by an Australian man.
The second highest .com sale was BrowserGame.com at $30,000, although it was slightly ... read more ...

My Thoughts on Today’s Rick Latona Auction -
Taking a look at today’s live domain name auction.
The Rick Latona Auctions auction at TRAFFIC starts this afternoon at 4:30 ET. Bidding is available online at proxibid.com/ricklatona. Here are my thoughts on a handful of domains in the auction:
Acronyms.com $150,000 – this is the type of domain the folks behind Dictionary.com might buy. I’m not sure if they’d pay this much for it, and I don’t know that anyone else would be interested.
Ballwin.com $11,800 ... read more ...
Rick Latona Auctions Scores Big in New York -
Auction results are impressive.
With Rick Latona Auctions taking over as exclusive auctioneer at TRAFFIC conferences next year, a lot of people questioned if it would be up to the challenge. Many of those questions were answered this evening in New York.
The final tally appears to be about $1.25 million or so in sales. That’s a respectable number. But it’s what’s behind the numbers that should be applauded.

Sedo Auction Woes Were Caused by Denial of Service Attack -
DDOS to blame for problems during auction yesterday.
Sedo’s outage during the .de domain name auction yesterday was not due to intense bidding activity, but was actually a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack, reports the company.
