Sedo 1 and 2 Character .De Domain Name Auction Ends Today -
.De auction ends today.
Sedo’s one and two character .de domain name “pre-auction” ends at noon Eastern today. .De is the country code for Germany, and is arguably the most successful country code domain name on the web.
.De registry DENIC is releasing one and two character domains, as well as other domains that previously were not allowed to be registered (such as those containing only digits). It announced the change on October 15, leaving just a week for ... read more ...

.De Domain Name Auction Melts Sedo’s Servers -
.De auction traffic halts auction.
Massive traffic for Sedo’s .de “pre-auction” has taken the site down. A message on the site reads:
Due to the extremely high participation in the .De Pre-Auction Sedo?s website was temporarily down. We have decided to extend the auction until 8:00 PM CET. If necessary we will extend the auction later than this time to accommodate additional bids.
Presumably that means 8:00 PM ET. Actually they mean Central European Time, but ... read more ...
TV.de Auction Ends Over $400,000 -
TV.de leads .de domain name pre-auction.
When .de registry DENIC starts releasing previously unavailable domain names tomorrow, you can bet a lot of Sedo’s partner registrars will be hammering the registry for TV.de.
A “pre-auction” for TV.de closed at 279,499 EUR, which is about $419,000 USD at today’s exchange rates.
The auction is still ongoing as I write this (thanks to Sedo’s web site failing under the bidding activity), but only one character .de domain ... read more ...

Moniker to Auction Off 1 and 2 Character .Biz Domain Names -
More .biz domains heading to auction next week.
Following on the Neustar’s successful auction of one and two character .biz domain names on Sedo, the company has inked a deal to sell a number of domains through Moniker. The domains will be auctioned at next week’s TRAFFIC conference in Brooklyn, as well as in Moniker’s extended online auction following the event.

Understanding Simultaneous Bidding Threads during Sedo -
Multiple bidding threads may cause confusion.
It sure seemed that there was a glitch in Sedo’s system.
I started receiving offers for one of my domains listed at Sedo — TaxiScreen.com — last week. The offers were small, and I countered with a reasonable asking price.
But something was weird. After the potential buyer offered a few hundred dollars, I received an email informing me that a bid had been received. I logged in to check it — and it only showed ... read more ...

Resumes.com Domain Sells for $400,000 -
Broker makes another blockbuster sale in Resumes.com.
Sedo has brokered the sale of Resumes.com for $400,000.
The domain is currently in Sedo’s brokerage account, so it is unclear who the buyer is. Potential buyers include resume services and online job boards. The domain was originally registered in 1993. We’ll keep you posted as we find out who the buyer is.
Here are Sedo’s other notable domain name sales for the week, including the first handful of ... read more ...

In Domain Auctions, Less is More -
Offering fewer domains can result in more sales.
This month’s SnapNames showcase auction ended with only twelve domain sales for a total of $44,149. That’s a dismal 4% sell through rate.
Why did the auction perform so poorly? There are a number of possible reasons, but I think one is that there were too many domains in the auction. Previous SnapNames monthly auctions have had fewer than 100 domains; this one had about 300. Given all of the online auctions ... read more ...

Moniker Trims Silent Auction List for TRAFFIC Auction -
Moniker shrinks silent auction, online finance auction ends tomorrow.
Responding to complaints about the unwieldy number of domains in its last major silent (extended) domain auction, Moniker has cut the list from about 5,000 to 1,800 for this month’s auction. I’m not sure if the list is small enough even at 1,800, but it’s definitely a move in the right direction.
The live auction will feature 187 domains and will take place on Wednesday, October 28. Top ... read more ...
AP Buys Domain Before Launching News Registry Service -
News cooperative buys domain for launch of initiative.
I often times write about companies that announce a new product before securing rights to the corresponding domain name. So it’s always nice to see when a company does secure a domain in anticipation of a launch.
This one comes courtesy of Rob Sequin, who read an article about the Associated Press creating a system to detect unauthorized use of its content:
The AP already plans to roll out a system, called ... read more ...
Dropbox Buys Dropbox.com Domain Name [Updated] -
Dropbox.com now forwards to GetDropbox.com.
TechCrunch noticed that popular web backup tool Dropbox has acquired the domain name Dropbox.com, which forwards to its web site GetDropbox.com. Hopefully this will be a lesson to web startups to not be stingy with their initial domain purchase, as it costs them lots more money in the long run. Dropbox’s parent company had sued to get the domain name, but recently dismissed the case. That likely means the two parties ... read more ...

NameMedia Scores with Ticket.com, Luck.com, and WV.com -
NameMedia turning in some blockbuster sales.
What’s going on at NameMedia, which runs BuyDomains and Afternic? They usually sell domains for under $5,000. Sure, they sell some more expensive ones, but we rarely hear about them.
The first bombshell was the sale of Ticket.com for $1.525 million. Personally, I don’t understand why this domain is worth so much, but my hats off to the sale. (Tickets.com is worth a lot, but Ticket.com is worth much less).

Another Six Figure Domain Sale: Freelancer.com - According to TechCrunch.com, an Australian company that’s been offering freelance jobs online since 2004, using the domain GetAFreeLancer.com, recently acquired the domain Freelancer.com for “a six figure sum”.
The domain according to the article was purchased from a private individual who used to run a magazine called Computer Freelancer.
So although we don’t know the exact price of the domain, we can add another good domain to the six figure sales list for this year.

RSS.com Leads Sedo’s Sales for Week during $125,000 -
Good values in six figure domain names as RSS.com sells.
RSS.com took home the top prize this week at Sedo, with the domain name selling for $125,000. TheDomains reports that the buyer is Ron Sheridan, one of the earliest employees at Oversee.net. Sheridan left Oversee earlier this year.
This is another example of the good values available for high end buyers right now. The domain was originally listed at $750,000 before being dropped substantially. Big price ... read more ...

e.Biz Sells for $66,001 -
e.Biz steals the show at successful one character .biz auction.
It’s no surprise that e.Biz was the top selling domain name in Sedo’s one character .biz domain name auction.
But $66,001?
That will certainly turn a lot of heads. Especially since the winner could have picked the domain up for a few hundred dollars and a commitment to develop/market it had it gone through .biz registry Neustar’s RFP process.
About 20 bidders participated, but just two bidders ... read more ...
