Lawsuit filed to redeem stolen X3.com domain name - Domain name was transferred to eName, a popular home for stolen domain names.
The person who registered X3.com in 1995 has filed a lawsuit to recover the domain name, which he says was stolen from his DreamHost account.
Anthony Alfieri-Crispin alleges (pdf) that the defendant managed to steal the domain name from his account and quickly transfer it to…where else…eName.

Report: Only 14 TLDs Are "Legal" in China - Allegravita published a paper that looks to be a bit troubling for registries looking to do business in China moving forward. The Chinese government is looking to regulate the Chinese domain industry while The MIIT will not interfere with existing domain registrations for unapproved registries; however, new registrations will not be permitted to be sold by Chinese registrars to Chinese registrants.

GoDaddy finds it harder to grow tip line - Revenue growth slowed in first quarter.
GoDaddy’s headline revenue number in Q1 was up 17.5% year-over-year, but the quarter-over-quarter number isn’t as pretty.
Here’s GoDaddy’s revenue growth each quarter-over-quarter, going back as far as its S-1 filed with the SEC discloses:

GoDaddy releases initial gain news as open company - Company posts 17.5% year-over-year growth in first quarter of 2015.
GoDaddy has released its first quarterly earnings as a public company and will hold its first quarterly investor call later this afternoon.
The company posted revenue of $376.3, up 17.5% compared to the first quarter of 2014. Revenue was up just 1% quarter-over-quarter.
The net loss was $(43.4) million, which isn’t as bad as the same quarter last year but is worse than last quarter’s $(26.8) million.

Tucows gets $1.5 million for selling .Online domain name - Registrar gets even figure sum to promote .online for three years.
Tucows’ withdraw from a partnership to run the .Online registry has resulted in a $1.5 million gain for the company in return for lending marketing support to the new TLD for three years.
The domain name registrar had formed a partnership with Radix and NameCheap to go after the .online top level domain name. The parties ended the partnership earlier this year, allowing Radix to own the top level domain name by itself.

ICANN just published the most recent .com transactions report, reflecting registrar results for .com from January.
There were no major outliers from January in terms of .com transfers, but Google Domains made an appearance on the top gainers list. 9,770 domains were transferred to Google’s new domain name registrar. New TLDs (.XYZ?) boost Web.com's bookings - “Very aggressive” new TLD promotions paying off for Web.com.
Many in the domain name community blasted Web.com and .xyz for the hundreds of thousands of free domain names Web.com gave away last year through Network Solutions. Was it, perhaps, a brilliant business move?

Verisign reports earnings, 1.51 million net adds - Company reports continued growth in domain name registrations and base.
Verisign reported first quarter earnings after the bell today, including some fairly solid numbers for new registrations and net additions in .com/.net.
8.7 million new .com and .net registrations occurred in the first quarter, up from 8.6 million in the same quarter last year. It’s not a big jump, but it’s headed in the right direction. That netted out to 1.51 million more names after accounting for deletions.

How domain name bonds did on GoDaddy's IPO day - Competitors also get bump as GoDaddy soars.
GoDaddy went public yesterday and shares immediately shot up 30%, giving the company a $4 billion market cap. In very early trading today it’s up another 3%.
There are a number of similar public companies out there. I think the two closest comps are Endurance International (which owns Domain.com and a number of shared hosting companies) and Web.com.

GoDaddy shares cocktail 30% during open - So far, so good for GoDaddy’s IPO.
It’s not an April Fool joke — GoDaddy is off to a great start in the public markets.
Shares began trading at about $26 today, 30% over where the IPO priced. The $20 pricing was itself above the expected range of $17-$19.
At $26 a share, the company is being valued at about $4 billion.
