See GoDaddy’s crafty .NYC boat ad -
Barge message taunts neighbors across the Hudson.
Earlier today I wrote about the highly anticipated launch of .NYC domain names. GoDaddy is promoting the domain name heavily around New York City, including a big ad on a barge being piloted on the Hudson River.
Here are a couple photos of the barge, taunting New Jersey residents about how New York City has a domain name and they don’t.
In fact, only people who live or own a business in New York City are eligible ... read more ...

My .website results: Hexonet wins a day -
Hexonet did remarkably well with my .website pre-orders.
On Wednesday, I wrote about the challenges I had pre-registering domain names at various registrars.
I was specifically trying to pre-register .website domains. .Website was supposed to launch Wednesday, but was delayed a day for technical reasons. This gave me another 24 hours to go after the domains I wanted.
Originally, I found 23 domains that didn’t have premium prices and pre-ordered them at GoDaddy. ... read more ...

This week’s lapsed domain report: Got .info? -
That would be Coleridge — his ill fated sailor thirstily contemplating the vast seawater. But I doubt “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” was the Rime.com that just sold at GoDaddy Auctions for $12.8k. Aside from that archaic spelling of “rhyme”, we have “rime” as the hoarfrost that forms from a fog in winter. Nope. Not it either. My bet is on the Play Station game, Rime — whose trailer is oddly reminiscent of Coleridge’s poem with its sea scape, ... read more ...

The state of a domain name industry -
My views on domain parking, domain sales, registrars and registries.
I’ve been collecting my thoughts on the domain name business over the past month, and it’s time to put them down in writing.
Here’s what I think about the state of the domain name industry in August, 2014.
Domain parking is down. Way down. But don’t confuse down with out.
We’re still talking about a relatively big business. Rook Media’s acquisition of DomainSponsor and its domain name ... read more ...
