Industry coalition objects to Google’s domain names applications -
An industry coalition with backing from Microsoft, Nokia and Oracle has objected to Google's application for certain top-level domain strings.
FairSearch.org said it has filed objections with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) over Google's applications for generic top-level domain (gTLD) strings including ".search," ".fly" and ".map."

World Intellectual Property Organization has added ten legal rights objections disputes to its list of new top level domain objections.

Bloomberg sues sploggers regulating Google’s Blogger -
Company upset over blogs using “Bloomberg” in subdomain and scraping Bloomberg content.
Bloomberg has filed a lawsuit (pdf) in U.S. District Court in New York against four John Does using Google’s Blogger service.
The defendants have set up blogs on the service that use third level domains that include the Bloomberg name. Bloomberg says the defendants are committing trademark infringement.

19 end users paid between $700 and $36,000 for domains at Sedo last week.
The top reported sale on Sedo’s sales list this past week was to an end user, although we don’t yet know what that end user plans to launch at the domain. Here are details on that sale and others:

We just received word from Namejet.com that this domain name has been placed back into auction meaning that the previous high bidder failed to pay for the domain.
Basically the domain name auction starts all over again as a private auction, meaning if you were in the February auction you are in this auction and if not, your shut out.
The domain was a true drop domain so the opening bid was only $59.

According to a report in Geek.com, Google is considering a plan to unifying all their messaging platforms into a single service, which is expected to be called Babble.

Sedo: $400,000 Euro Bid For 8888.com Cancelled - Yesterday DomainNameWire.com reported that a bid had been placed for 400,000 Euro’s for the domain name 8888.com.
Today we have been notified by Sedo that the bid has been cancelled.
Although the bidder has to be premium certified by Sedo to even place a bid of that amount, so it is believed that the bid was a mistake or a typo if you will.

I have a hard time understanding how a private auction would be illegal in the case of new TLD allocation.

Afternic is running another auction on the SnapNames platform and it’s attracting lots of bidders.
