Pepsi’s engaging $8,000 domain purchase -
Pepsi buys a hyphenated domain for $8,000 and it won’t be easy to by the unhyphenated version.
As I was going through Sedo’s sales report from last week, one domain caught my eye — mostly because of the buyer. PepsiCo bought Green-Label.com for a solid $8,000.
I can see a number of uses for this domain, but I’m not sure I’d go with this brand or marketing name if I were Pepsi. Why? GreenLabel.com is owned by an unrelated clothing company.

Companies that are worried about competitive advantage should reexamine their own domain name strategies.
An awful lot of big brands are speaking out against the prospect of “closed generic” top level domains, such as .cloud and .book.
That may be good news for owners of high quality second level domains, if or when these complaining companies “get” domain names.

Consumer products giant provided false sales numbers to WIPO panel.
A World Intellectual Property Organization panel has found Procter Gamble guilty of attempted reverse domain name hijacking over the domain swash.com.
Marchex has owned the domain name since 2004. PG launched a new brand called Swash several years later.

All happen to be zip codes as well.
Over the last few years we haven’t gotten of any offers or interest on any of those domain names, but over the past couple of months interest in NNNNN.com domains have really picked up to the point where almost not a day goes by without an email of interest on one or more of these domains.

Meetme.com Buyers Of Meet.me, Reports & Stock Rises 15% - Meetme.com (MEET) reported it earnings for the quarter and fiscal year ending December 31, 2012 after the market closed on Thursday night and the earnings report send the stock up over 15% in regular trading on Friday.

Another Brand New gTLD Drops Out as .Olympus Withdraws it’s Application - Olympus Corporation has become the latest company to withdraw it new gTLD application for its .brand application .Olympus which had a Prioritization number of 1,861.
.Olympus becomes the 22nd new gTLD application to be withdrawn not including the withdrawal of .home and .casa which it announced this week by Godaddy.com, which is not yet reflected on ICANN’s site.

Legacy Fund Sells SS.tv for $30,000 - On the heels of OO.tv sale, Legacy Fund has sold another double letter .TV domain name this time, SS.tv, for $30,000
The sale was brokered by MostWantedDomains.com
The domain name has some history.
The domain sold in the past for $21,500 in 2008, and then the buyer let it drop as it had a premium renewal fee of $1,000 per year.
The domain was then picked up by Legacy Fund on the drop in December 2010, and now it just has been sold for $30,000 to an end user in the UK.

GotMilf.com Saved in UDRP By Ari Goldberger - The California Milk Processor which has a trademark on the term “got milk” lost its bid to get the adult domain name GotMilf.com, as the majority of three member panel found that the domain is not confusingly similar to the trademark.

Company plans to change some new TLD applications after pressure over “closed generics”.
Google plans to update four of its new top level domain applications to make the domains more open to registration outside of Google.

Competitive Advantage vs. Anti-Competitive and a sealed TLD debate -
There’s a big difference between gaining competitive advantage and being anti-competitive.
This morning I read Technology Policy Institute’s opinion on “closed” top level domains.
A closed domain is one in which the applicant doesn’t plan to offer second level domain names to the public, including its competitors.
My belief about closed generics is quite similar to TPI’s.

Godaddy By The Numbers: 55 Million Domains Under Management - Some really interesting numbers are coming out of the Godaddy Registry Days conference in Arizona today.
The numbers are just huge all around for the company that was started in 1997 didn’t sell its first domain until 2000
Almost 55 Million domains are under management, which is more than the next 10 largest registrars combined.
68% of registrations are .Com
Selling 70+ extensions today.
Godaddy.com registers 50,000 domain names per day
1.6-1.8 domains are registrations every second.

Godaddy Dropping New gTLD Applications for .Home & .Casa - At the Godaddy new gTLD Registry Days event today it announced it would be withdrawing its applications for .home and .casa.
We want to concentrate and be just a registrar for all new gTLD’s so we are withdrawing our applications for the new gTLD’s for .Home .Casa.

At the Godaddy Registry Days conference, Godaddy.com announced that they will be dropping the .com off their logo over a period to time just to read “Godaddy”.

ICANN’s “Geographic Names Panel” Says .Vegas Is Not A Geo - .Vegas apparently is not a Geo, so says the ICANN Geographic Names Panel.
