25 days after prices went up, Verisign announces another price increase.
The wholesale registry fee for .net domain names just increased from $5.11 to $5.62 on July 1.
Today, Verisign announced another price hike that will increase the price to $6.18. The increase will go into effect on February 1, 2014 following a six month waiting period.

Verisign downgrades sponsorship of ICANN meetings -
After peaking in 2011 meeting, Verisign’s sponsorship of ICANN meetings has steadily dropped.
Thinks there’s a lot of bad blood between Verisign and ICANN right now?
That may be why Verisign isn’t sponsoring the Durban meeting at as high of a level as it has sponsored previous meetings.
The Durban meeting offers six sponsorship levels, ranging from Bronze ($7,500) to Diamond ($250,000).
For this meeting, Verisign sponsored at the $15,000 Silver level.

ICANN explains because it didn’t tell Verisign’s letters -
Group it doesn’t usually publish counsel-to-counsel letters.
Verisign sent several letters to ICANN earlier this year highlighting concerns about the new registry agreement. ICANN never posted those letters, and they only came to light when Verisign posted a message in a comment period.

Verisign Launches Find Your Custom Domain Tool/App: Domaininspiration.com - Verisign released a new Tool called the Custom Domain Tool at Domaininspiration.com to help people find the perfect unregistered domain name.
The site preference is for you to log in with your Facebook account and then randomly generates domain names to match your profile however you can sign up with it using your email address as well.
In my case the Tool “randomly generated 209 domains based on your profile”.

Verisign whois secretly returning “no match” results -
Have to submit query twice to get correct result on Verisign’s whois.
Verisign’s whois service for .com and .net is sometimes falsely returning a result of “no match” the initial time you search for a domain name.
For example, if you search for DNW.com on Verisign’s site or via port 43 whois, you’ll get a “no match” result the first time. Click “search” a second time and the correct whois will be returned.

Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Now Owns Over 5% Of Verisign - Back In February we told you that Warren Buffets’s Berkshire Hathaway purchased 3,685,700 shares of Verisign (VRSN) which at the time of acquisition represented an investment of around $165 Million dollars.
Today according to Cnbc.com, Berkshire Hathaway added another 4.49 million shares last quarter and now owns 5.35% of VeriSign.

Company suggests ICANN is only posting letters that “will advance its positions”.
Verisign has sent a letter to ICANN questioning why it isn’t publishing certain correspondence on the ICANN.org web site.

Apparently Verisign is value a same with or but cost hikes -
Company’s market cap is back up to October levels.
Just as I don’t understand why the DOW has been hitting all time records lately, I also don’t understand this: Verisign is apparently worth the same with or without seven-percent-a-year price hikes on .com.
When Verisign dropped the bomb on October 25 that the Department of Commerce was reviewing its ability to automatically increase prices, the company had a marketcap of about $7 billion.

Verisign to ICANN: not prepared for new TLDs -
Verisign claims insufficient preparation (mostly technical) for new top level domains.
Verisign has sent a report to ICANN (and filed it with the Securities and Exchange Commission) that basically says that the internet isn’t prepared new top level domains yet.
The report outlines multiple issues, ranging from automated TLD additions to the root (of which Verisign plays a role), lack of emergency backend providers, and lack of final plans for zone file and escrow.

Verisign Over 1,300 .Com & .Net Pope Domains Registered - A few days ago Godaddy.com the world’s largest domain registrar reported that 479 Pope related domain names were registered within the first hour after the announcement.
Today the .com/.net Registry Verisign reported that “between the time Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation and the choosing of Pope Francis I, there were more than 1,300 new domains registered across the .com and .net top level domains with keywords related to the papacy”.
