4 Ways to Liquidate Domain Names - Hmm, I’m curious about who Frank means about the person “behind Namemedia.” That could be an interesting story in itself. Will he care to elaborate further? (hope hope hope) As someone who sells client domains and my own everyday, I find the following sources for domain sales the best: 1. Snapnames Private Auctions – Get your domains registered at Moniker.com, send your list to Jonathan Stanfill at Snapnames, and if you have halfway decent domains, you’re going to sell through ... read more ...

Luxury.net Luxurious during $40,000 - A look at ongoing auctions including Luxury.net. An auction for Luxury.net is currently 25,000 EUR at Sedo, or approximately $40,000 USD. The auction ends July 19. This is a luxurious price for a .net domain name, so the name is fitting. Other Sedo auctions closing this week include PureCasino.com at $13,000, zfz.com at $7,000, and ljl.com at $6,600. There are a handful of auctions at Sedo right now that currently have good prices and might make good investments: Send.us ... read more ...

Moniker’s Money-Losing Auction - Nobody won during Saturday’s live auction. If you’re bummed about the results of Saturday’s live GeoDomain auction, which took in about $280,000, think about how Moniker feels. This live auction was a money loser for the company. Moniker’s gross cut from the live auction will be about $42,000. Then they have to pay a cut to Associated Cities (assumption), pay the auctioneer, pay for all of its staff’s travel to Chicago, the time it took organizing the ... read more ...

Is Bido.com an Early Success? You Betcha. - Plenty of Naysayers, but Bido is making an impact. If you read domain name message boards you probably think domain name auction site Bido is a failure. I beg to differ. People keep pointing to the “bargains” people are getting on the site. Bargains? What bargains? These same people are watching the auctions, so why aren’t they bidding if these are such great deals? With rare exception, it’s hard to get a bargain on mid-market domains in a domain auction ... read more ...

Moniker To Get Auction Competition during TRAFFIC Shows - Multiple live auction companies to host auctions at event. I’m sure there’s a backstory on this, but Rick Schwartz, who co-produces the TRAFFIC domain name conferences, just sent out an e-mail announcing that Moniker will no longer be the exclusive provider of domain auctions at his conferences. For the first time at any domain show we are going to have multiple live auctions presented by multiple auction houses. This is going to be a game changer! Howard and ... read more ...

Auction Watch: Pizzerias.com during $94,000 - A look at current domain auctions of interest. Moniker’s next live domain name auction is this weekend in Chicago at the GeoDomain Expo, but there’s plenty of auction action going on right now. The big auction is Pizzerias.com, which has a bidder at 60,000 EUR ($94,000 USD) at Sedo. Perhaps the domain is flying on the coattails of the Pizza.com sale? The auction ends in 4 days, and now that Sedo has implemented its buyer verification process, this deal is likely ... read more ...

Zimbabwe.com: An Opportunity to Do Good - Auction at GeoDomain Expo provides opportunity to shed light on atrocities. The 2008 GeoDomain Expo kicks off Thursday night in Chicago. Moniker will hold a live auction Saturday evening with geo gems such as SanMateo.com and Yemen.com. But one domain draws special attention and an opportunity for a wealthy domain investor: Zimbabwe.com. I’m not talking about an opportunity to make a lot of money. After all, the domain has a reserve of over $500,000 (after ... read more ...

BuyDomains Does Dirty Work of Targeting End Users - NameMedia division uses marketing muscle promoting domain names to small and medium businesses. It seems like everywhere I look these days I see an ad for BuyDomains. I’m not talking about ads targeted to domain owners, but ads targeted to end users. There were the skyscraper banner ad on GigaOm and CitySearch. And the e-mail blast to the WebProNews list (see below). And the countless other web sites showing BuyDomains banners. New Domain Name Auction Platform Bido Launches - After long delay, Bido has launched. Newcomer Bido has entered the domain name auction scene. The platform, launched in part by Sahar Sarid, features only one domain name auction per day, bids start at $1, domain names have no reserve, and Bido guarantees a minimum sales price to sellers. It’s good for domainers to see more competition in this space, especially from a company that’s trying to throw a couple curve balls into the game. Bido includes social aspects ... read more ...

Cognac.com: A Model for Good Domain Name Marketing - Seller uses online, offline marketing to sell domain name. Cognac.com sold for $88,000 in last month’s GreatDomains auction. Moniker Streamlines Auction Submission Process - No more e-mailing spreadsheets; Moniker enables online auction submissions. Anyone who has submitted a domain name to Moniker for inclusion in its auctions knows how much of a pain it can be. Selling Domain Names to Maintain Cash Flow - Domainers turn to sales to maintain cash flow. At the last TRAFFIC conference in Orlando I had a conversation with one of the more successful domainers. We chatted about parking and the drop in parking revenue, and also discussed sales. He told me he is starting to sell some of his portfolio: “With domain parking down, I’m selling a couple domains a month to maintain the same cash flow I had last year,” he said. Of course, parking revenue is very different ... read more ...

Israel.com Has NOT Sold - Erroneous reports suggested domain name sold over the weekend. A number of erroneous reports hit the wire this morning that Israel.com sold for $5.88 million. I just got off the phone with Moniker’s CEO Monte Cahn and he told me these reports were incorrect and the domain name is still for sale. Apparently the rumors started when a publication, perhaps “TheMarker” or Haaretz, saw the reserve price in the Moniker silent auction and assumed that was a winning ... read more ...

If domains are so valuable, because are many good ones still dropping? - I started following domain drops in 1997. Back then there was no domain name industry, no trade shows, no blogs, no industry auctions. Very few people knew what a domain was, how to use them, and how valuable they were. Now 11 years later, with countless articles, press releases, blogs and reports of domain sales, why are so many good domains still dropping? Here are just some of the names that have dropped and were auctioned off in the past 30 days: GreenMonday.com $76,000 Helpline.com $70K Surveyors.com ... read more ...
