Test Driving Bido’s New Features -
Bido releases new features on auction platform today.
Social auction platform Bido released several new features today. I logged in this morning to check them out, and I think these changes will help take Bido to the next level in domain name sales. Here are a few of the changes.
1. Comments – Previously, you could only give a ‘thumbs up’ to an expert commentary about a domain name. Now you can leave a full comment, either reaffirming or disagreeing with ... read more ...

BuyDomains, the end user sales arm of NameMedia, has sold the domain name Rosary.com for $78,088. The domain was listed through Afternic.com, and the seller selected the Expanded Promotion option. Stop Selling Domains Like a Hyundai -
Recent car shopping experiences are similar to buying a domain name.
What’s it gonna take to getyou into this domain today?
It’s time to replace my Acura, so I’ve been car shopping lately. I’ve checked out all the regulars, but decided it was worth stopping by the Hyundai dealer since everyone is raving about its Genesis. The Genesis is an upscale sedan priced around $35,000 — much less than comparable cars. But it’s being sold by a dealer used to selling ... read more ...

No Record Setters, But We Close Over $100K In Sales In June - We all love to hear about all those six and seven figure domain sales of one word category killer domains.
But there is a whole other market out there for end user buyers of two three and four word domains, and its a pretty busy marketplace.
We just finished up out best month of the year, in June, selling 16 domains for a total of $110K in sales.
We also turned down well over 100 offers on some of our best domains.
With BuyDomains.com rocking along with $600K in sales a week, there’s no doubt ... read more ...
$20K & A Category Killer Domains Creates An Empire - An short story appeared on the Deseret News, on how Ryan DeLuca started BodyBuilding.com and turned it into “the Internet most-visited body building and fitness site”
My favorite quote from the article:
“He took a huge risk by getting a $20,000 loan to buy the domain name BodyBuilding.com”
Bodybuilding.com is ranked by Compete.com as having just under 1.5 Million visitors a month.
Not bad for $20K.
Fortunately for Mr. DeLuca he didn’t follow some of the suggestions contained in another ... read more ...
Moniker Discusses a Future of Domain Auctions -
Moniker looks forward to the next chapter in domain name auctions.
Moniker put the live domain name auction on the map. So it was a surprise to many in the industry when T.R.A.F.F.I.C., host of many of Moniker’s live domain auctions over the past few years, announced that Rick Latona Auctions would be its only auction provider in 2010. That leaves one more Moniker/TRAFFIC auction this fall under the company’s existing contract.
An end of an era? Not really. ... read more ...
A Creative Three-Way Domain Name Deal -
Pair strikes a creative deal to get recruiting domain names.
I’ve written before about Harry Joiner and Jason Davis. Davis, who has one of the world’s finest collections of jobs.com domain names, sold CEOJobs.com to Joiner a couple months ago.
The two have struck another deal, and it shows how a little creativity in a deal can help get things done. The story goes like this:
-Joiner recently bought DirectorJobs.com, and Davis thought it was a great domain

NameMedia Sells Another $600k in Domains -
Company shows consistency in domain name sales.
Domain seller NameMedia, which sells domain names through BuyDomains and Afternic, sure is consistent. It seems that every week they total $600,000 or so in announced domain sales. That sort of consistency can only come with a large inventory of domain names. This past week the company sold about 400 domain names, or an annualized 20,800 names. Assuming an inventory of a million domain names, that’s a 2% turnover ... read more ...

Talk.com latest big ticket domain name sale.
Domain brokerage Sedo has sold the domain name Talk.com for $500,000. The seller, according to whois records, is Cavalier Telephone, LLC of Virginia. The domain name is currently in Sedo’s control, so the buyer is not yet known. Live Current Selling Importers.com? -
Whois for Importers.com changes to whois privacy.
It appears that Live Current Media (OTCbb: LIVC.ob) may be in the process of closing a sale for Importers.com. The whois record for the domain name showed Communicate.com (Live Current’s former name) on June 16 but now shows Go Daddy’s whois privacy. Live Current hasn’t made similar changes on its other domain names except when they were sold.
In April I was able to determine that the company had sold Vietnam.com ... read more ...
Yahoo Domain Sale was Win-Win -
Yahoo’s sale of Contests.com was a win for everyone involved.
When Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) sold the domain name Contests.com on Tuesday, the mood was upbeat. It was a relatively big domain sale from a big company for a lot more money than the seller anticipated.
I was surprised to see some people questioning the sale. Larry Fischer made some fair points. TechCrunch went a little overboard, suggesting this was more than just a simple decision to sell an unused domain. ... read more ...

Stat Check: How is Domain Aftermarket Doing? -
A statistical look at a slice of the domain name market.
Most people agree that the investor aftermarket for domain names isn’t as lofty as it was a couple years ago. Just look at the mood and total sales at live domain auctions for proof. But gathering data to prove this is difficult.
Richard Wixom of DNSalePrice recently took at stab at it, but with a different conclusion: the domain aftermarket is doing just fine, thank you. The drop in domain prices over ... read more ...
San Francisco Chronicle Article is Today’s Laugh -
Article says domain name auction yesterday would have been “one of the first”.
A planned real estate domain name auction yesterday in San Francisco fizzled as no one placed bids. But an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the auction will give you a chuckle. It suggests that this would have been “one of the first” live domain auctions:
The few who showed up felt more comfortable negotiating in private – removing the sale from public view and scuttling ... read more ...

According to the sources each acquisition was in “the single-digit millions”, meaning anything above $1 Million but less than $9,999,999.

Aftermarket.com has released its auction list for next Tuesday’s auction during the Domain Roundtable conference in Washington, D.C. Sure, there are a few domains as always that seem like long shots, but most look well priced.

Moviles.net Domain Name Sells for $35,000 -
Spanish language domain name tops Sedo’s weekly charts.
It’s an interesting week when Sedo’s top domain name sale is only 25,000 EUR (about $35,000 USD). It’s even more interesting when that domain name is a Spanish language .net. But this past week Moviles.net took the crown at Sedo. “Moviles” means mobile in Spanish, and the domain name appears to have been used as a web site before being purchased. It is now temporarily parked at GoDaddy.

$3M Candy.com Sale Gives Domain Name Industry a Boost -
Candy.com sells for $3M. Here’s what it means.
It’s official, according to seller Rick Schwartz: Candy.com has sold to GJ Holdings for $3 million (and may include some royalties). But I’m not going to write about how great Rick is; I’ll leave that to other people (and Schwartz does such a good job of it himself). Instead, I’m going to make a few observations:
