Sedo sells three letter domain for big money, and the future is bright.com.
After a few weeks of not reporting any major domain name sales (and one that go away), Sedo came through big time this week. Highlighting the list is CGM.com, which the company brokered for a whopping $365,000. The new whois record for the domain name is for Compugroup, a large European e-health company with nearly 300 million EUR in annual sales.

e.co Domain Name Auction Starts during Sedo -
Bidding for e.co underway.
The charity auction of e.co, sponsored by .Co Internet and Sedo, has started and runs through June 10.
A lot of people have been comparing this auction to that of e.Biz, but I don’t think the comparison makes sense. e.Biz sold for so much because it’s a very common term — eBiz. Just look at the buyer, which owns Ecommerce.com, to understand the value.
So what is the value of e.co? I think most of the value lies in the “eco” ... read more ...

Boyd playing a winning hand with domain name.
Domaining is much easier.
The World Series of Poker has begun, and that means World Series of Poker bracelet winner Russ “Dutch” Boyd is hitting the poker tables. But regardless of how well he does this year, he’s already looking like a winner thanks to a domain he has on auction at Sedo right now: cured.com.
Boyd dabbles in domain names when he’s not bluffing his poker opponents. He also made it out to the TRAFFIC ... read more ...

UsedAirplanes, Inc., the parent company of Flying.com and UsedAirplanes.com, has purchased the domain name and web site UsedAircraft.com to add to its expanding arsenal of web properties.
Earlier this year the company acquired Flying.com for $1.1 million. I interviewed company President CEO Mark J Horne at the time, and he explained the decision as a “no-brainer”:

MonaLisa.com Domain Name Sells for $200,000 -
MonaLisa.com domain name sells for $200,000.
The Mona Lisa has been sold!
OK, so it’s actually MonaLisa.com.
According to Sedo’s market activity report, it has sold the domain name MonaLisa.com for $200,000:
The domain name is currently pending transfer and is in Sedo’s brokerage account. The seller is California-based NetCorp.
This is a big sale for Sedo, given the dearth of six-figure sales coming out of the brokerage recently. Of course, it is getting ... read more ...

DOMAINfest Extended Auction Bombs -
Extended auction fails to live up to success of live auction.
Last week DOMAINfest had a successful live domain name auction. Unfortunately, the extended auction didn’t perform too well.
Only 8 out of 797 domain names sold, or a sell through rate of only 1%.
It’s disappointing, but I’m not terribly surprised. I only came up with five domain names to mention in my preview post a couple days ago. (Mind you, none of the five I chose sold. But it goes to show ... read more ...

DNW Picks for Tomorrow’s DOMAINfest Extended Auction -
Domains to watch in tomorrow’s auction.
The extended auction for last week’s DOMAINfest Global power networking day in Fort Lauderdale ends tomorrow at 3:15 EDT. After looking through the list I came up with 5 extended domain auctions I think are worth a look. There were plenty of good domain names, but many of the ones I got excited about had reserves that I think are too high for investors.

Diapers.com Parent Ready to Launch Soap.com -
Quidsi acquired Soap.com earlier this year; set to launch new site.
Earlier this year Quidsi, the parent company of Daipers.com, acquired the domain name Soap.com. It looks like it’s getting ready to launch a new site or brand and is sending out a teaser to the press.
Given the success Diapers.com has had with its flagship web site, it makes sense that the company would pick another great category-killer domain for its next brand. Of course, it could just be a ... read more ...

Peaches.com Headed to Auction -
Peaches.com owner Kelly Pitts tells how he got the domain — and why he’s putting it up for auction.
The next Sedo Great Domains auction kicks off Thursday, and my pick for the top domain name on the list is Peaches.com. It’s a spectacular category killer domain name that also has branding potential. I reached out to owner Kelly Pitts to find out when he acquired the domain name and why he has decided to offer it for sale.

GoDaddy Sells IPS.com for $37,505 -
Another five figure sale courtesy of Go Daddy Auctions.
Last week I wrote about GoDaddy selling BusinessTube.com for $25,000. Go Daddy only reports certain sales it makes each week, and only sales made on its Go Daddy Auctions site. So we don’t always see five figure deals on its lists.
But they did it again this week, selling IPS.com for $37,505. The domain’s whois record has been protected by privacy for a while so it’s unclear who the buyer is.

The domain name was listed for sale in a SnapNames auction. The auction concluded without a bid reaching the reserve, but Moniker worked with both parties to close the deal. ... read more ...

AOL Buys Advisibility.com Domain Name — For What? -
Media giant buys domain name for a grand.
Last week AOL bought the domain name Advisibility.com for $1,000. I did some searching to see what AOL might be up to on the domain name but came up empty.
A logical answer is something related to online advertising — Ad Visibility.
As we all know by now, AOL owns Advertising.com (and claims to have rights to many variants of the word “Advertising”). Could AdVisibility.com be a new product for this group? We’ll ... read more ...

Lessons from Bido -
A look back at two years of Bido.
Now that I’ve had a couple days to mentally process the closing of Bido, it has given me time to reflect on what went wrong.
To be clear, I commend both Sahar and Jarred for creating Bido. They put their heart and money into it, and should be proud of the innovation they brought to the marketplace. I also think we’ll see the platform live on in some incarnation as they are currently liquidating the assets.
So here are my main ... read more ...

We congratulate the Seller and Buyer.

The New Domain Auction Paradigm -
There are lots of auction opportunities. How can auction houses differentiate themselves?
