Did Overstock.com Pay More for o.biz Than o.co? -
Both purchases were big when you add it all up.
e.biz was the highest selling one letter .biz domain name at $66,001, right? And at $350,000, Overstock.com paid a lot more for o.co than o.biz, right?
Don’t jump to that conclusion.
Overstock was awarded o.biz, which it currently uses as a b2b commerce store, through a request for proposal from .biz registry Neustar. Although the RFP didn’t require Overstock to pay much money directly to the registry, it did ... read more ...

FreeMarket.com Proves It’s a Free Market during $93,000 -
FreeMarket.com leads domain name sales for the week.
Hey, it’s a free market out there. That means the price of a domain name is dictated by how much someone is willing to sell it for and how much someone is willing to pay. A prime example: FreeMarket.com, which Sedo just brokered for $93,000.
Another example of the free market at work: HighInterestSavingsAccount.com, a four word, 26 letter domain that sold for $18,000. Now if only I could find a savings account ... read more ...

Moniker Releases Domain Auction Catalog for NYC (Already) -
Catalog issued well in advance with some big names.
One of my (and others’) complaints about live domain name auctions is that the catalogs are released at the last minute. That hardly gives time for serious buyers to pull together the necessary money or approval to make big purchases.
But Moniker just released the auction catalog for its August 18 auction at DOMAINfest NYC. That’s a refreshing change.
The list of domains includes some of those big dollar domains ... read more ...
Moniker Auction Results: 30 .Us Domain Name Sell -
US country code auction sells over $40,000 worth of domain names.
[Updated: the official tally is 30 domains sold. I originally reported 29 domains sold.] Moniker’s .us domain name auction sold 29 30 of 86 domain names, or 35%. That’s a much stronger showing than recent online auctions held by the company. The key to success was a lot of good keyword domain names with low reserves. Having them at prices most people can afford helped, too.
In total over $40,000 ... read more ...

.US Domain Name Auction Off to Strong Start -
Moniker times auction with Independence Day, and it’s off to a great start.
What better domain name topic to write about on July 4 than .us?
Moniker’s .us domain name auction at SnapNames is off to a strong start with 11 of the 86 domain names already receiving bids. The auction runs through July 8. Compared to many recent Moniker auctions, this one would sell a higher percentage of domains even if it closed today.

Is Sex.com Really a World’s Most Valuable Domain Name? -
Sex.com is worth a lot, but other domain names might be worth more.
The headlines have been screaming about Sex.com the past 24 hours, saying that the world’s most valuable domain name is for sale.
But is it? Is Sex.com the most valuable domain name (by the domain itself) in the year 2010? Ask me five or ten years ago and I’d say “of course”. But now things have changed.
I’m not an expert on online adult entertainment. Michael Berkens knows quite a bit ... read more ...

Sex.com Now Officially for Sale during Sedo -
Storied domain name now available at domain broker.
It’s been in the works for a while, and I understand an agreement was signed a few weeks ago, but today Sedo announced that Sex.com is up for sale. It will be sold along with two trademarks.
As of now it looks like Sedo is treating this as a broker deal. I suspect there’s a (high) asking price, and Sedo is trying to gauge interest. If multiple buyers are interested I wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort ... read more ...

Sedo Hits 6 Figures with Three Domain Names -
Domain broker has good sales week.
Sedo completed three six figure domain name sales last week, capping off a great week for the company. First, it sold the three number domain name 027.com for $100,000. It also sold Pengyou.com and Pengyou.net, each for $100,000. PengYou appears to be a Mandarin word for “friend”.

The Coming Fall in Domain Name Values -
It’s only a matter of time before sales prices of second tier TLDs fall.
Is it unwise to invest in generic non .com domain names right now? With the exception of ccTLDs and perhaps .org, I think so.
Sometime within the next 2-3 years we’ll see a flood of new top level domain names on the internet. We’ll see some topical TLDs such as .radio, .eco, and .radio. We’ll see geographical TLDs such as .nyc and .vegas. We’ll see some top level domains in non-Latin ... read more ...

e.co Auction Ends Today, .Net Reserves Lowered during Latonas Auction -
Auction festivities taking place today.
A widely publicized auction for e.co ends today on Sedo at 4 PM EDT. As of the time of writing ten different bidders have pushed the price up to $38,000. Given the number of early bids in this auction this one could sizzle toward the close. Don’t rule out a six figure closing price.
