Domainers (Still) Bullish on Domain Values -
Domain investors predict rising values in 2011.
Domainers are nothing if not an optimistic lot.
55% of people who took Domain Name Wire’s 2011 survey think domain values will increase in 2011 compared to 2010. Only 14% predict a drop.
This should come as no surprise based on the answer to this question over the past six years. Take a look:
In only one year since I started this survey have domainers shown any pessimism. Only 32% of survey takers predicted an ... read more ...

Is There a Buying Opportunity for Mid-Tier Domains? -
There seem to be some good buying opportunities for mid-range domain names.
In early 2005 I looked around a domain name aftermarket that was quickly heating up. I saw high prices paid for category killers and lots of people snapping up less expensive domains.
But there seemed to be a sweet spot in the $2,000-$20,000 range in which values were still available.
Looking over some recent auction sales I think that sweet spot may have returned. There have been lots of ... read more ...

Elsewhere in the domain auction world SnapNames is running its March feature auction. It includes primarily domains related to travel and entertainment. A few domains already have bids but the auction ... read more ...

Survey: Domain Name Marketplaces -
Major domain marketplaces continue to innovate and grow.
The number of domain name sales venues is expanding. More importantly, the way these venues syndicate sales listings is leading to a more fluid domain aftermarket.
Domainers use a number of domain marketplaces beyond the usual suspects. Still, the big three dominate: Sedo received the most votes in this year’s Domain Name Wire survey with 39% of the vote. Go Daddy and Afternic received 12% and 9% respectively. ... read more ...

Afternic Changes Up Its Reporting Rules & Proves Sales are Sometimes Just a Numbers Game - I hear a lot of domainers asking why they don’t get the sales volume that others so publicly do.
Frankly sometimes its just a numbers game.
If you own 1,000 quality domain names your not going to get the sales volume of those with 100,000 quality domains or those with 1,000,000 domains.
At some point total sales does become a numbers game reflecting the amount of domains owned and/or submitted to a sales platform.
After I reviewed this weeks Afternic.com sales list, well that just proves the point.

Whisper.me Sells for $17,500 -
Another .me domain name sells for big bucks.
Go Daddy Auctions has handled the sale of Whisper.me for $17,5000.
I must admit that I continue to be taken aback by sales of .me domain names. Sure, some of them are catchy. But whisper.me doesn’t have the same ring as love.me or call.me.
And even if with the cuteness factor, some of the prices paid for these has just caught me by surprise.
Surely the ones that don’t take advantage of the play on ‘.me’ will see ... read more ...

Afternic.com Post $450K In Sales Lead By Funo.com during $20K - Another LLLL.com domain name lead the sales chart at Afternic for the week ending February 13th.
Funo.com lead the pack at $20K, floridaautoinsurance.com seemed like a bargain at $15K, and as usually there are plenty of sales in that $3K-$5K range that none of us would pay $100 for.
Here is a complete list of all reportable sales of $2K or more for .com and $1K or more for other than .com’s.
The other observation I have is that it seemed the non-com sales were very few in number compared to most ... read more ...

Go Daddy Premium Listings New Business Model for Domainers -
Some domainers get bulk of revenue from Go Daddy sales service.
I’ve written before about my success with Go Daddy Premium Listings that place your domain names for sale directly in front of buyers in the Go Daddy registration path. But with only a few hundred domains at Go Daddy my sample size is small.
While at DOMAINfest last week I spoke to a few people who have large portfolios at Go Daddy. Two of them told me Go Daddy Premium Listings have basically become ... read more ...

Observations from Moniker’s Live Auction -
Why sales were low and what it says about the current state of domain name auctions.
Moniker’s live auctions (low no reserve and premium) last week sold just over $400,000 of domain names. The top seller was Won.com at $115,000.
This is obviously a low number. I have two observations from the results:
1. A lot of these domains would have sold for much more back in 2007. Check these out:
TrafficJam.com $11,500
OfficePark.com $6,000
Exhausted.com $2,000

Domain broker announces record year for domain name sales.
Sedo announced today that it helped sell over $100 million worth of domain names last year. It’s the first time the company has hit 9 figures in a year.
The total was no doubt helped by the $13 million sale of Sex.com. Without the Sex.com sale Sedo’s numbers would actually be down compared to 2009 as 2010 numbers are up $2.5 million from the prior year.
