Marchex’s Sales Prove It: Estibot Appraisals Are Worthless - As a domain owner there is nothing more frustrating than having someone argue that the asking price of your domain is too high because its over “Estibot Appraisal” (unless your price is lower) then they hit you with the “its only worth what someone willing to pay for it” line.
Estibot.com for those who don’t know is a tool that attempts to appraise domain name on a bunch of statistical information.
For years I have argued that since the tool is not intuitive and only relies on statistical ... read more ...

$24 Million In Domain Sales To Be Added To DnJournal.com - In its announcement splitting Marchex into two separate companies and releasing over 500 domain name sales previously not reported, we reached out to Ron Jackson of DnJournal.com who has served as the “official” record keeper of domain sales to see how he would be handling these sales.
In all we count over $24 million dollars in domain sales which took place between 2008-2012 by Marchex.
In answer to our question of whether and how Ron Jackson would be reporting these sales of Marchex on DnJournal, ... read more ...

The biggie: a list of its top 500 domain sales of all time.
Many of this (most?) have never been reported. Which means Ron Jackson might be very busy, should he decide to go back and figure out when these domains were sold so he can add them to the charts.

Two thoughts on $500,000 webhosting.co.uk sale -
A mammoth ccTLD sale.
Yesterday Sedo domain broker Dave Evanson announced that he had brokered the sale of webhosting.co.uk for $500,000.
The buyer, Pawel Ciszewski, doesn’t appear to be new to the webhosting comparison site business. His LinkedIn profile links to a similar site FindMyHosting.com.
So Cisznewski knows what he’s doing; he knows what the traffic to the domain and the keyword domain can do.
I have two thoughts on this sale.
First, congrats to Dave ... read more ...
Sedo .uk auction ends tomorrow -
Auction timing is a mixed bag.
Sedo’s .uk domain name auction featuring 30 .co.uk and .org.uk domain names ends tomorrow.
So far three of the thirty domains have received bids and met their reserves. The top domain is moviedatabase.co.uk at 210 GBP.
I spot checked five domains and they were all owned by Sedo subsidiary DomCollect, so this appears to be a house auction.
On one hand, the timing for the end of this auction couldn’t be better. The company announced ... read more ...

40 finish user domain sales -
40 end user domain sales from the past week.
It was a busy week for end user domain sales: A university bought the name for its new mascot, a rehab center spent $30k on a category defining domain name, and a company bought a three letter .com as an acronym that likely cost less than it would have paid to get its longer name.

That offer we only got for your domain is a top you’ll ever get -
Ever reject an offer that you wish you would have accepted?
Have you ever turned down an offer on one of your domain names only to kick yourself later?
Domain investors often talk about “domain sales regret“, when you sell a domain that ends up selling for more later.
But I think the opposite is more often the case. You turn down an offer on a domain, only to wish later that you would have accepted it.
I can think of a couple cases off the top of my head. One ... read more ...

SnapNames Oct no haven auction ends tomorrow, .ca auction kicks off today -
Two auctions worth a look.
SnapNames has an “October Deals” auction that ends tomorrow, and I think it’s worth a look.
There are 61 domains and it appears none of them have a reserve — just a minimum bid of $199 or more.
Many of the domains are ones that you might see sell for $1,000-$3,000 to the right end user, such as AllMBA.com, DebtReductionService.com, DietLogs.com, and SoccerLounge.com.
So far 12 of the 61 domains have bids. LBS.org leads the pack with ... read more ...

Auction was high energy despite low sales prices.
If you didn’t attend the domain auction Monday at TRAFFIC, you’ve probably read a bit about:

One of the auctioneers couldn’t read or pronounce most of the domains.
