GoDaddy gets sixth obvious for “Adwords for Top Level Domains” -
Domain registrar continues to collect patents for ways to prioritize domain name search results.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted a sixth patent to GoDaddy related to a way to position domain names in response to a user’s domain search.
I first wrote about GoDaddy’s idea in 2011 after the USPTO granted the first patent, 7,890,602, for “Tools enabling preferred domain positioning on a registration website.”

Tucows executes retreat batch split, starts trade on NASDAQ -
Tucows shares trading close to $13.00.
Domain name company Tucows is now trading on the NASDAQ at a double digit number, thanks to its reverse stock split.
As of the time of posting, is shares (NASDAQ: TCX) are trading at $12.95. Shares closed at $3.11 yesterday, and today the shares are trading after a 1 for 4 reverse split. That would put the stock at an “open” of $12.44, so the stock is still up in trading today.

Bob and Renee Parsons pledge over half of their wealth to charitable causes.
GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons and his wife Renee Parsons have joined The Giving Pledge, an initiative in which wealthy people pledge to give half or more of their wealth to charity.

GoDaddy issues its pricing for jumping the line for Donuts’ domain names.
Last month I wrote about how Donuts was eschewing a traditional “landrush” period for its domain names in favor of a so-called “Early Access Program”.
The Early Access Program (EAP) charges significantly higher prices the earlier you register a domain name.

TLDH launches “Priority Registration” use for new TLDs, starting during €29.95 -
Service makes it easy to get first in line for some new TLDs, although premium pricing does apply.
Top Level Domain Holdings has released a system for pre-registering new top level domain names, called Priority Registration.

Shares of Tucows (NYSE AMEX:TCX, TSX:TC) shot up 15% to $3.00 in after hours trading after the company announced third quarter earnings.
The company got a big cash boost from its deal with Donuts to withdraw its applications for the .marketing and .media top level domain name applications.

Top ten domain registrar 11 is now accepting pre-registrations on a first come basis, and the various pre-registration offerings are rather confusing.
Last week I wrote about how GoDaddy was beginning to accept paid pre-registrations for a handful of top level domain names that will be coming soon.
Other registrars are also offering some version of paid offering now, and more will begin to do so as the domains are actually delegated.

Overnight GoDaddy started accepting paid pre-registrations for four new top level domain names: .uno, .menu, .build, .luxury.
While many registrars have offered some sort of pre-reservation or pre-registration service that did not require any firm commitment by the customer, GoDaddy is the first major registrar I’m aware of to actually charge an upfront fee.

Two domain name companies released third quarter earnings results after the bell yesterday.
Marchex reported GAAP revenue of $40.6 million, compared to $33.7 million in the same quarter of 2012. Its adjusted EBITDA fell to $3.4 million from $4.8 million in Q3 2012.

Donuts announced this morning that it plans to start the sunrise for its first seven top level domain names on November 26. The sunrise will close on January 24, 2014.
The seven domains are .bike, .clothing, .guru, .holdings, .plumbing, .singles, and .ventures.

Demand Media, Inc. (NYSE: DMD), that it has selected the name Rightside Group, Ltd. (“Rightside”) for the spun off domain services business.
The company is going with the domain name Rightside.co.

As well you need to stop registering TM terms, maybe a better eyeball of your vaccum system before you go and gulp every drop of the day could help you fix that. Company will continue to advertise in Super Bowl but take a different tack.
GoDaddy has announced that it will run Super Bowl ads for the tenth year in a row.
The company will again have two 30 second ad spots in the 2014 Super Bowl. One of them will, once again, feature race car driver Danica Patrick.
But the similarities between 2014 and the company’s previous Super Bowl commercials will end there: the company will skip sexual innuendo in the new commercials.
