Insurance company Transamerica has filed a lawsuit against Moniker, Oversee.net, and multiple John Does in United States District Court in the Southern District of Florida. Moniker Discusses a Future of Domain Auctions -
Moniker looks forward to the next chapter in domain name auctions.
Moniker put the live domain name auction on the map. So it was a surprise to many in the industry when T.R.A.F.F.I.C., host of many of Moniker’s live domain auctions over the past few years, announced that Rick Latona Auctions would be its only auction provider in 2010. That leaves one more Moniker/TRAFFIC auction this fall under the company’s existing contract.
An end of an era? Not really. ... read more ...

Moniker Auction Bargains: You Couldn’t Have Them -
Just because someone got a bargain yesterday doesn’t mean you could have gotten the same deal.
By all accounts, there were some “good deals” in yesterday’s Moniker domain name auction. You may look at some of these final prices and think the buyer got a good deal:
Entrepreneurs.info $650
OrderManagementSystem.com $600
CompanyDatabase.com $665
GiftCertificates.info $777
TechnologyCareers.com $1050

3 Online Domain Name Auctions Going on during Once -
Take advantage of lots of inventory to get good deals.
There are three online domain name auctions going on right now, and that doesn’t include the regular auctions such as Sedo. I’m talking about the silent version of three live auctions held in the past two weeks: DomainConsultant’s GeoDomain Auction, Rick Latona’s TRAFFIC auction, and the Moniker auction.
This means there’s a lot of inventory out there and lots of good deals. You just need to look ... read more ...

Handicapping Today’s Moniker Live Domain Auction -
Many high quality domain names in today’s auction.
Today’s live domain name auction by Moniker at the TRAFFIC conference is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. local time (6 p.m. EDT).
Moniker did a good job getting some high quality domain names at low reserves. Will it be enough?
Attendance at this show is down considerably from past TRAFFIC shows. Word is that about 250 people registered for the show but fewer may actually be there. Thankfully, bidders can ... read more ...

Moniker’s Live Domain Auction Looks Like a Winner -
Moniker meets the challenge with superb list of domain names.
My general response to a list of domain names published for a live domain auction is usually subdued. Rarely do I see domain names that are priced to sell.
But after taking plenty of flack for its last auction, Moniker seems to have stepped up to the plate for this month’s TRAFFIC auction. (See a full list of domains in the auction here.)
In the under $5,000 category, there are a number of good domains ... read more ...

Brief notes about what’s going on in the domain world.
There are a lot of stories I haven’t gotten to lately. Here they are in brief.
Don’t want your WordPress site to get hacked? Richard Douglas, who helped me yesterday when it happened to me, put together a great post of WordPress security tips.
Since many of you have asked about my conference schedule for the next few months, my current plans are to attend GeoDomain Expo in San Diego and Domain Roundtable ... read more ...

Which Domain Name Registrar is Best for Domainers? -
@ Ozie, contact me for some wholesale one-name IDN’s. Great prices if you buy in bulk. Plus, I can set up a nice lunch with Todd Han if you bring over 1000 domains or more to his registrar! Be sure and wear boots if you’re under 6 foot.
@Tony K – Ever see what GoDaddy charges once you get to the shopping cart checkout? You’ll get the fees, trust me.

Moniker Limits Submissions for Apr Domain Name Auction -
Moniker limits domain submissions to 250 and provides additional guidelines.
Responding to results and criticism of recent live domain name auctions, Moniker is setting a limit to auction submissions to April’s TRAFFIC auction.
Domain owners may submit a maximum of 250 domains to the auction. Frankly, this number is still too high but is a step in the right direction. If they’re truly looking for the best domains, they should try limiting it to 10 or 20 per ... read more ...

Is It Time to Suspend a Live Domain Name Auction? -
Results from DOMAINfest beg the question.
The advent of the live domain name auction has given the domain name industry a huge boost in both high dollar investor purchases and media attention. Two years ago in New York, Moniker’s live domain name auction topped $10 million in sales.
Last month in Los Angeles, the live domain auction brought in only $800,000 over two nights selling 110 domain names. It wasn’t a big surprise given the economy and what’s going ... read more ...

Why a Live Domain Auction Bombed (and Why I’m Not Surprised) -
Domain name auction pulls in under $700,000, but mid range domains continue to sell.
Yesterday’s DOMAINfest Global live domain name auction wasn’t pretty. With under $700,000 in domains sold, it may have set a low point for a general Moniker live domain auction. The mood in the room was somber as domain after domain was passed.
But the news wasn’t what was going on in the room, but what was going on outside the room. I ran into a couple people that usually ... read more ...

Companies Have Fiduciary Responsibility to Lock Down Domain Names -
A simple, cheap method to lock down domains exists. Public company CTOs need to get on the ball.
CheckFree is warning 5 million customers about its domain name mishap last month where its nameservers were changed to forward its web site.
All the perpetrators did was get a password to CheckFree’s account at Network Solutions, log in, and change the nameservers to point to another server.
This same thing could happen to other companies, and public company executives ... read more ...

Moniker MaxLock Gets Maxed Out -
New Portfolio MaxLock covers more and costs less.
In September I wrote about MaxLock, a new product from Moniker that improved the security of domain names by making it harder to transfer domains out.
Just recently CheckFree.com had its domain hijacked when someone logged in to CheckFree.com’s Network Solutions account and changed the nameservers. Fabulous has a free product called Executive Lock that would have prevented this hijacking.

CheckFree.com Theft Should Lead to Added Registrar Security -
CheckFree.com theft is a reminder of how easy it is to divert a domain name’s destination.
Visitors to bill pay site CheckFree.com early Tuesday morning were diverted to a Ukraine site that tried to install malware on visitors’ computers.
It wasn’t a high tech hack. It turns out someone got a hold of CheckFree.com’s username and password at domain registrar Network Solutions. They logged in and changed the nameservers for the domain name. It was really ... read more ...

Moniker to Consolidate 12 Domain Registrars Into One -
Moniker to consolidate management of its registrars to Moniker’s system.
[Update: See comment from Monte Cahn regarding further consolidation of 105 SnapNames registrars.] Have you ever won a domain at Snapnames and found the winning registrar — such as 1HostUnitedKingdom.com or AceofDomains.com — to look suspiciously like Moniker other than a different logo? That’s because these registrars are all “owned” by Moniker.
