Group’s definition of “cloud community” is too broad.
Cloud Industry Forum Limited has lost its community objections against three applications for the .cloud top level domain name.
The objections were filed against the three applicants who planned to keep their .cloud registries closed to registrations: Google, Amazon.com, and Symantec.

GoDaddy signs the 1st Registry-Registrar Agreement with New gTLD .UNO: Paid Pre-Registrations Start In Nov -
According to a press release we just received, Dot Latin LLC announced today that the world’s largest domain registrar, GoDaddy, has signed the Registry-Registrar Agreement for the .UNO domain extension, specifically designed for the Hispanic and Latino communities, worldwide.
.UNO is the first global web extension dedicated to Spanish-speaking businesses, consumers and individuals online.

Applicant questions how .Cars collision can be cleared -
One applicant for .cars has good questions about how exactly it can resolve its contention set.
DERcars, an applicant for the .cars top level domain name, has filed a reconsideration request (pdf) with ICANN’s board after Google won a string confusion objection against the company’s .cars application.

Google Reports Paid Clicks Up 26%; Cost Per Click Down: Has $56 Billion In The Bank: Shares Up + 7% - Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2013.
The market loved the news sending Google shares up over 7% to an all time high in after hours trading of $957 a share, up $68.
For the domain name industry the takeaways are that the number of paid clicks are up again.
Way up if you measure by the same quarter of 2012 where paid clicks are up 26%
If your just looking at last quarter paid click are up nicely at 8% higher.

It would seem that good .com domains are still highly prized, even by new top level domain name applicants.
Google has acquired the domain name CRR.com, and I have no doubt it was acquired for the company’s new TLD subsidiary Charleston Road Registry. [Update: the domain now forwards to Google’s registry page.]

Google and Amazon.com have changed their minds about operating some of their applied-for generic top level domain names as “closed” domain names.

A conflicting opinion over .cars leads to an interesting contention set problem.
A panelist for a string confusion objection brought by Google against DERcars, LLC over the top level domain name .cars has ruled in favor of Google.
By ruling in favor of Google, that means DERcars’ application for .cars will be put into a contention set with Google’s application for .car.
This creates a big problem.

Google Buys Bump: Bu.mp - Google (GOOG) just bought Bump, a developer of Android/iOS apps that allow users to share contact info, photos, and other files by bumping their phones together.

Search giant acquires domain name from domain investor.
Google has acquired the domain name AfricaConnected.com, likely for its efforts to bring internet access to more people in Africa.
It looks like Google acquired the domain name with the help of Mark Monitor through its NameAdvisers group.

comScore: Yahoo Beats Google For 1st Time In Years Becoming Most Visited Websites - According to comScore, for the first time in several years, Yahoo (YHOO), web properties were the most visited in the country in July.
With 196.6 million visitors who Yahoo properties compared to 192.3 million who visited Google for the first time since May 2011.
Yahoo’s unique visitors were up by roughly 20% compared to July of last year, when it came in third behind Google and Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500), according to comScore.

Board resolution quashes dotless domains again, at least for now.
ICANN’s New gTLD Program Committee has passed a resolution confirming a prohibition on so-called dotless domain names, effectively killing Google’s plans for a dotless .search top level domain name.
A dotless top level domain name would resolve without a dot. For example, while something.example will resolve in most browsers, http://example will not.

Demand Media successfully defends Motorola plea for .moto -
Google subsidiary loses legal rights objection over .moto.
Motorola, now part of Google, has lost its legal rights objection against Demand Media subsidiary United TLD over the .moto top level domain.
United TLD plans to offer the domain names for motorcycle enthusiasts, while Motorola uses it as a brand for mobile devices.
Motorola also applied for .moto through Google subsidiary Charleston Road Registry.

Google Reports & Miss On Revenue & Earnings: Paid Clicks Up 23%; Cost Per Click Down 6% Stock Sinks Over 5% - Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 after the market closed but missed expectations for both revenue and earnings per share, sending shares down more than 5% or $50 a share in after hours trading.
Google reported consolidated revenues of $14.11 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2013, an increase of 19% compared to the second quarter of 2012.
GAAP operating income in the second quarter of 2013 was $3.12 billion, or 22% of revenues.
