How To Play a Expired Domain Game in 2009 -
A practical guide to profiting from expired domain names in 2009.
Because of the economy and faltering parking revenue, you should expect to see more domain names expiring and dropping in 2009 and 2010. Most of these added drops will be of low or mediocre quality, but some of them will be worth backordering.
To new comers, buying expired domains can be somewhat daunting. But in many ways it’s easier now than in the days of many competing services slamming the ... read more ...

LAinsurance.com Sells for $100,000 -
Detroit-based insurance agency shells out 6 figures for domain name.
L.A. Insurance has purchased the domain name LAInsurance.com from NameMedia for $100,000. Although the number may seem high for a geo insurance domain name, this deal makes perfect sense for the buyer. (As it turns out, “L.A.” is not a geography to this company).
L.A. insurance has 150 locations and currently uses the domain name LAInsuranceAgency.com. It’s no doubt that a number of its ... read more ...

Here’s how to bulk upload all of your domain names for sale to aftermarkets.
You know that old lottery saying “You can’t win if you don’t play”? The same thing applies to domains. If you’re looking to sell them, you should list them on the major domain aftermarkets Sedo and Afternic where buyers can find them.
I’ve written tutorials on how to do this at both Afternic (tutorial) and Sedo (tutorial) before, but I just refreshed my portfolio and went ... read more ...

Survey: Which Expired Domain Name Service is Best? -
Aha! That “novel” wasn’t submitted for some reason! Luckily I saved it before I clicked “submit”. But some editing was lost, so please be forgiving. Here it is, again:
+++++
H*ll yes, I will choose Snapnames first over any of the others.
Reasons? For Dub-A, I will come out of my normally shy and quiet demeanor, and be uncharacteristically blunt:
1) Snapnames has consistently run a well-managed expiring domain service for at least four years (although they’ve been around ... read more ...

Median End User Domain Name Sales Price $1200 -
NameMedia provides data on the SMB end user market for domain names.
Earlier this month I reported that the median sales price for domain names at Sedo last year was $500. I pointed out that this number represents a mix between end user sales and investor sales.
If you’re looking for a better number for the small and medium business end user market, look no further. NameMedia, which focuses on the SMB end user market through BuyDomains and other market channels, ... read more ...

New Aftermarket Launches with Odd Name and Business Model -
No, TLDOffers.com won’t sell you top level domains.
I’ve written before about new domain name aftermarkets and asked if there was room for anything to compete against the incumbents. Few people think it’s possible.
Today I saw a press release for a new market called TLDoffers.com. The name threw me for a loop, especially after reading the home page of the web site:
“A top level domain (TLD), sometimes referred to as a top level domain name or TLDN. Basically, ... read more ...

Sedo Improves Security of Escrow Process -
Online account interface makes spoofing more difficult.
It has been a while since I’ve sold a domain on Sedo, so I noticed a new security enhancement today when transferring a domain to a buyer.
The security problem was that Sedo’s escrow process used to be handled exclusively by e-mail. After Sedo received funds, the seller received an email with instructions for transferring the domain. This e-mail could be spoofed (indeed, I recall reading about at least ... read more ...

10 Things I’d Do if we Were a New Domainer -
Here are ten things I’d do if I were just joining the domain name industry.
I’ve been in the domain industry for a decade, so I’m stuck with my legacy portfolio to build from. But if I were just entering the industry, here are 10 things I’d do:
1. Focus on quality, not quantity. It used to be everyone had a pissing contest about how many domains they owned. “You only have 5,000? Well I have 10,000″. But the guy or gal holding 1,000 domains may be ... read more ...

Moniker’s next live domain name auction is this weekend in Chicago at the GeoDomain Expo, but there’s plenty of auction action going on right now.
The big auction is Pizzerias.com, which has a bidder at 60,000 EUR ($94,000 USD) at Sedo. Perhaps the domain is flying on the coattails of the Pizza.com sale? The auction ends in 4 days, and now that Sedo has implemented its buyer verification process, this deal is likely ... read more ...

Should we Set Minimum Offer Prices on Sedo? -
Should I set minimum offer prices or let people make any offer?
I’m always excited when I get an email from domain aftermarket Sedo informing me that I’ve received an offer on a domain name. That excitement usually turns to disappointment when I click through to see that the offer is for a measly $60. Please, it’s not even worth my time transferring the domain.
But this may be my fault. After all, you can set a “minimum offer” price on your domain listings. ... read more ...

Update: Selling Domain Names on eBay -
Is it worth trying to sell domain names on eBay? An experiment with Headcase.com.
Everyone knows that eBay’s domain name auctions are full of junk. I personally don’t spend any time looking for domains there.

I’ve decided to give eBay another shot, but this time as a seller. And with a good domain, not ... read more ...

Afternic To Add Listing Verification, Feedback System -
Domain aftermarket to add new features, time frame unclear.
Domain name aftermarket Afternic is adding two new features. One I support 100%, the other one gives me a couple concerns.
The first feature is a listing verification system. Domains will be verified for proper ownership when they’re listed. But the system will also periodically verify ownership while a listing is live. This is a great feature that will reduce the chances of “buying” a domain that ... read more ...
