In a webinar held by ICANN today on its Last Resort Auction for new gTLD strings in contention, ICANN stated that no new gTLD ICANN last resort auction will be held in 2013 and most likely not until March 2014.
Moreover the ICANN schedule is 10-20 auctions per month, with no applicant being able to participate in more than 5 auctions per month.

Pre-registrations now accepted for fees of up to $1,200 per domain.
Overnight GoDaddy started accepting paid pre-registrations for four new top level domain names: .uno, .menu, .build, .luxury.
While many registrars have offered some sort of pre-reservation or pre-registration service that did not require any firm commitment by the customer, GoDaddy is the first major registrar I’m aware of to actually charge an upfront fee.
And the fees are steep.

Demand Reports: Media business Negatively Impacted by Declines in Search Referral Traffic & Advertising Demand - Demand Media, Inc. (DMD), reported its earnings after the market closed today.
Demand’s earnings were in line with estimates, but revenue was above estimates.
However it seems like Demand is fighting a losing battle on the eHow front as changes in Google search algorithm is negatively effecting that part of the business.

As someone who runs a website in the domain investing space, the new gTLD domain names will likely lead to advertising revenue opportunities. I don’t have any open banner spots nor do I have plans to add banner space, but at some point in the future, I assume there will be new gTLD advertising inquiries.
