Facebook doesn’t apply for any top level domains.
Back in April AdAge reported that Facebook wasn’t applying for a new top level domain. I found that surprising, and wrote:
Of course, it’s entirely possible that AdAge just didn’t talk to the right person within the companies. A Facebook spokesperson told AdAge that the company wasn’t apply for .Facebook, but you never know.

As many as 1,409 tip turn domains on a way -
1,409 unique top level domain applications submitted to ICANN.
It’s “reveal day”, with ICANN set to reveal the applications for new top level domains at a press conference starting at 8 am EDT today.
This morning ICANN released overall numbers related to the program.

Afternic.com Sells $995K In Domains Led By ConferenceCalling.com For $80K - Afternic.com just published its weekly report of domain name sales totalling $994,964 for the week ending June 10th, 2012. The publicly reportable sales were led by ConferenceCalling.com at $80K, followed by VertigoEntertainment.com at $65K.

You May Have Seen The Last Really Sexy GoDaddy Ad - According to The New York Times, GoDaddy.com, who up until now produced all of their own commercials in house, including those Super Bowl commercials, has hired for the first time a professional advertising agency, Deutsch New York.
According to The Times the first commercials produced by Deutsch New York will begin airing during the Olympics.

NABP Applies for New gTLD .PHARMACY - The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) has applied to own and operate the new gTLD of .PHARMACY. According to the press release:
“At a time when the vast majority of Web sites selling prescription drugs online are doing so illegally – many of them selling unapproved, substandard, and counterfeit medicine – NABP is seeking to establish the .PHARMACY space as a secure and trustworthy destination where consumers can be sure the medications they buy online are authentic and safe.”

Juan Calle of STRAAT Investments Applies For 13 gTLD’s - STRAAT Investments has just revealed 13 new GTLD’s it’s applied for. The company also owns one of the best travel domain portfolios in the word. One of it’s principals, Juan Calle, is the driving force behind CO Internet, the company who operates the .Co registry.
CO Internet and the .Co extension have been a huge success story with over 1.3MM registrations in the 2 years since they launched.

Sedo.com Sells $1.7MM In Domains Led By online-casino.de for $115,000 Euros - Sedo.com just announced its weekly sales data ending June 11th, 2012. In all over $1.7MM of domains were sold. The top seller was online-casino.de Euros at €115,000s.
Other domains topping the list of public sales were gruppenreisen.de for €59,500 gamble.net for $46,125.
In all 842 domains were sold. 41% of total sales were the result of Buy Now listings.

.XXX Adds 7,360 Registrations In Feb & Takes In Over $450K - The monthly ICANN reports are out for February and ICM operator of the .XXX TLD reported 6,352 one year registrations, 652 two year registrations, 196 three year registrations and 160 five year registrations.
So that is a total of 7,360 new registrations for the month of February 2012, or 9,044 in total taking into account the multiple years.
With a wholesale cost of $50 (actually its $62 but $10 goes to the non-profit IFFOR and $2 goes to ICANN) that mean’s ICM raked in $452,000 for the month.

Afilias Backend Provider for 305 Applications Including 175 .Brand TLD’s - Afilias Limited, the operator of the .INFO, .MOBI and .PRO top level domains (TLD) announced that it will be the back end provider for 305 new generic TLD applications to ICANN.
“The applications span a range of new TLD ideas, and include 18 Internationalized TLDs (for example, Chinese and Cyrillic), four community domains, four geographic domains and more than 170 “dot Brand” names.”

Go Daddy hires ad group as it changes the image -
Company taps Deutsch to shift its image and advertising.
For the first time since 2005, Go Daddy has hired an outside ad agency to manage its advertising.
The company will formally announce tomorrow that it hired the New York office of ad agency Deutsch Inc.
Deutsch’s first public work for the company will be its ads during the Olympics on NBC.

Complaint filed against domain that sends traffic to survey and adult sites.
A complaint has been filed with National Arbitration Forum over the high traffic domain name oogle.com.
National Arbitration Forum does not disclose the name of complainants until a case is decided, but you can bet good money that Google filed the dispute.

Facebook gets FacebookOfSex.pro domain name -
Social network registers two Facebook sex domains.
Last year Facebook sued FriendFinder Networks over its FacebookOfSex.com web site, ultimately resulting in a transfer of the domain name to Facebook.
Now the company has registered two similar domains, FacebookOfSex.pro and Facebooksex.pro. The two domains were previously owned by a registrant called “Netud” in France.
You may be asking yourself, isn’t .pro for professionals only?

Schilling applies for 54 domains, reports Paul Sloan.
CNET’s Paul Sloan, who has been covering the domain name industry for many years, just wrote a piece on new top level domains that teases out more details behind Frank Schilling’s plans for new TLDs.
Sloan reports that uber domainer Frank Schilling is applying for 54 top level domains through his registry Uniregistry. He’s invested $60 million of his own money for the venture.

Marchex Hits 52 Week Low - Shares of Marchex traded as low as $3.13 today setting a new 52 week low for the company
Marchex market cap is now only $106 Million well below what it paid for Yun Ye’s portfolio many years ago.
The 52 week high for the company is $10.97.

Neustar Racks Up 358 Applications Including .NYC; How Did They Beat Verisign? We Know - Neustar, today announced that it has been selected as the registry services provider for 358 applications for new generic Top-Level domains (gTLDs). including the City of New York as the registry service provider to manage the application process and operate .nyc.
We reported back in March that Neustar had guaranteed the city of New York $3.6 Million dollars to get the contract.

IAB: Internet Advertising Set Record Revenues For 1st Q 2012 At $8.4 Billion - Internet advertising revenues for the first quarter of 2012 set a new record for the reporting period at $8.4 billion, according to the latest IAB Internet Advertising Report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PwC U.S.
It is the highest first-quarter revenue ever measured by the IAB and PwC and a $1.1 billion–or 15 percent increase–over the $7.3 billion figure reported in the first quarter 2011.

Demand Media Applies For 26 gTLD’s & Is Partners With Donuts, Inc. on 107 New gTLD’s - According to a press release out this morning Demand Media (DMD), announced that it has applied for 26 new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs).

ICANN’s 2010 Tax Return: Staff Compensation Over $25 Million; Travel $10 Million - ICANN has posted its 2010 tax return for the fiscal year ending June 2011 and is full of goodies.
According to its tax return for 2010 (for year ending June 30 2011) which was filed in May 2012, ICANN showed over $72 Million in Revenue and paid out over $25 Million in compensation with officer, director and key employees totaling $6.5 million.
CEO Rod Beckstrom’s total compensation was just under $1M at $998,230.00
All and all about 40% of all ICANN’s revenue went to pay staff.

King’s latest venture applies for ten top level domains.
Raymond King, the co-founder of SnapNames (later bought by Oversee.net and then KeyDrive) and founder of AboutUs, Inc., is applying for 10 top level domain names through his new company Top Level Design, LLC.
King has partnered with early stage investor Peter Brual, who doesn’t appear to have a background in the domain industry but is an advisor at AboutUs.

Sedo Holding has lowered its earnings forecast for the current year due to “confirming margin development in Domain Marketing in the second quarter 2012.”
