YouTube.com: Sex & Nudity Videos Are Banned But Death & Suffering Are OK - A news story that ran locally in Miami last night caught my eye. There is a video posted on YouTube showing a man drowning off the coast of Puerto Rico. The video is obviously quite upsetting to the family who lives in Miami who asked YouTube.com to remove it. “Stop using my Dad, leave my Dad alone, let him rest in peace”, said the son in asking YouTube to remove the video. The family was shocked to find that such a video is not prohibited by YouTube’s guidelines. According to YouTube.com here ... read more ...

Thank God Aug Is Over - As long time domainers know, August has traditionally been the worst month for traffic and revenue for parked page and this year was no  exception. The dog days of summer run from middle of July to after labor day, with the middle of August until after Labor day being the worst. We already noticed yesterday revenue on some of domain were up over 40% from just a couple of weeks ago. We look forward to rolling into fall and the traditionally strong 4th quarter. 4 Ways to Reform UDRP NOW - Here are some needed reforms to UDRP. Uniform Dispute Resolution Procedure (UDRP) has some problems. Here are four quick ways to improve it. 1. Only allow an additional submission if specifically asked for by panel. UDRP rules prescribe that the complainant in a case can only make an addition submission (usually a response to the respondent’s claims) if specifically asked to do so by the arbitration panel. But most of the time an additional submission is submitted ... read more ...

With Real-Time Web, Seconds Matter - As communications and information access emphasize “real time”, seconds matter. Last football season I was watching the Texas Longhorns in HD on Time Warner Cable. I was talking on the phone with my brother, who was also watching the game on Time Warner Cable, but not in HD. He kept cheering and jeering plays a full 5 to 10 seconds before I saw them. That’s because HD takes longer to be delivered a decoded by the set top, so it’s delayed compared to standard ... read more ...

BridgeLoan.com Sells For $27K & Someone Buys Up An Entire Category For Under $100K - The domain bridge loan sold for $27,101 over the weekend at NameJet.com. Its a nice domain, which would be great for an end user. Another bidder scooped up ProteinBar.com ProteinBars.com for $77K on Saturday, and then on Sunday bought NutritionBars.com and NutritionBar.com for another $11K.  So for less than $100K,  he owns a huge category. A great buy. Well done, especially if the buyer was an end user like bodybuilding.com (I don’t know who bought the domains) All indication was that the bidder ... read more ...

Casino.Mobi Sells For $135K - Moniker just announced that it has brokered the sale of Casino.mobi to Infomeda Ltd for $135,000. Certainly this  is the highest priced paid for a .mobi since the extension’s initial release premium auctions held at TRAFFIC shows in 2007. Turkish Firm Grabs KOC.com during Arbitration (On Second Attempt) - Panelist’s decision in three character domain dispute does not compute. Sometimes I read something and just scratch my head. Such is the case with a UDRP for KOC.com. Koç Holding A.S., a Turkish company, filed a complaint to get this domain name earlier this decade — but was denied in a decision in March of 2001. The panelist on the case determined that the company had not proven it had a trademark. Fast forward to 2009. Koç Holding A.S. again files a ... read more ...

.Biz Auction Can Only Help a .Biz Domain - There’s only one way to go: Up. When Domain Name Wire first reported that one and two character .biz domain names would be released, we had an unscientific poll to estimate how much the domains would sell for. Generally speaking, most people believe two character .biz domains will sell for under $5,000 and one characters will sell for under $10,000. Now that the initial RFP process for .biz domains has completed, .biz registry NeuStar has teamed up with Sedo ... read more ...

KOC.com Lost In UDRP Second Time Around: Non Resolving Page Is “Bad Faith” - The domain Koc.com was awarded in a UDRP, to the holder of a trademark in Turkey which owns Koc.com.tr. As in most of these cases, the facts are long on both sides. Here are the interesting parts of the case; First, the same company that owns the trademark and filed this action, brought a UDRP on this domain already and lost in 2001. Second, the domain holder did not have this page parked showing results related to the trademark.  Matter of fact the domain holder did not have the domain parked at ... read more ...

Why Is Traffic From a .Com Typo OK, But Traffic From a .CM Is Not? - As you know, over the last few weeks, I have been reporting on the rollout of the .CM ccTLD, and not a post goes by, where I haven’t gotten at least one, and usually several comments from domainers, to the effect that, all that the .cm extension is for, is to serve as a typo of a .com,  and its only value is from misdirected traffic. So? For years I have seen .com typos and misspells,  sell for thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars and not once did I hear anyone comment negatively ... read more ...

ProteinBars.com Sells For $57K & ProteinBar.com Sells For $20K At NameJet.com - In a battle between 2 bidders, that lasted for well over two hours, , a couple of nice domains sold over at NameJet.com today and they weren’t even a .cm ProteinBars.com, a true category killer,  sold for $56,900  and its cousin ProteinBar.com sold for $20,100. Smartly the same bidder picked up both domains. I bid up to $30K for the Plural and $5K for the singular and obviously got outbid badly on both. Another domain hit the figure fives today at NameJet.com, CarSurvey.com, which sold for $10,641,  ... read more ...
