Major email providers restraint some RAA corroboration emails - Blocking could lead to website suspensions. Beginning January 1st domain name registrars are required by the new Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) to verify contact details for registrants. Most registrars do this by sending an email to domain registrants and asking them to click a link in the email. For the registrant fails to do this, their domain names can be suspended. This has resulted in at least one high profile website being suspended, and more will ... read more ...

New RAA ushers in large changes (and demands) on domain name registrars - Developers at domain name registrars will be working overtime this fall. ICANN announced today that its Board of Directors has approved the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement. It’s the conclusion of a long and contentious process that has resulted in arguably the most sweeping changes ever in the contract that governs the relationship between ICANN and domain name registrars. ICANN will now be means to postpone domain name registrars - [Well, looks like ICANN actually had a similar provision in its 2009 RAA, just in a different section. Sorry about that.] One of the big improvements in the proposed 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) over the 2009 version is the ability for ICANN to suspend registrars. Previously, if a registrar was in breach of contract, ICANN only had the “nuclear option” – to terminate the domain registrar. Many in the ICANN community felt this was why ICANN would ... read more ...

ICANN vouchsafing registrar negotiations reason new TLDs hostage - No new agreement, no new TLDs. Last week I wrote about how ICANN’s latest proposed registry agreement for new TLD operators. The agreement mandates that new TLD operators use only domain registrars that have signed the new Registrar Accreditation Agreement with ICANN. The problem is that the RAA doesn’t exist yet. As far as we know, it’s still be negotiated. And negotiations are contentious. Michele Neylon of Irish registrar Blacknight submitted comments to ... read more ...

New Restrictions for Domain Name Resellers are Coming - New restrictions face domain name resellers. Domain name registrar resellers will face new restrictions under ICANN’s new registrar accreditation agreement. Several of these restrictions were spelled out in an email from eNom to its resellers yesterday: 1.
