I’ve Got Domain Renewal Fatigue; 5 Days to Go - Looming price hike means it’s time to renew your domain names. Over the past few days I’ve renewed thousands of dollars worth of domain names. The price of renewing most domain names will shoot up on October 1 as many of the registries increase prices. That includes VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN), which runs .com and .net. Registrars will pass these price hikes to customers. Last time before prices increased I renewed domains a couple months out. This time, thanks ... read more ...

Backdrop for this Week’s Domain Auctions is Shaky - This week’s onslaught of domain auctions couldn’t have come at a more unstable time. Call it the week of domain name auctions: two from Moniker, plus auctions from Rick Latona Auctions, Aftermarket.com, and Sedo. Also call it the week of economic uncertainty. Yesterday afternoon the backdrop for the Aftermarket.com auction was knowledge that President Bush was going to address the nation about the financial crisis just a few hours later. In that speech, he ... read more ...

Godaddy Caves into Kentucky - Godaddy.com became the second domain registrar to cave into the Kentucky court order as it issued. Godaddy has sent a  “registrar certificate”  to the court in Kentucky,  which gives the bearer exercises control of the domain name. Enom.com also transferred domains to Kentucky. Its quite sad that neither of these registrars waited until the registrants had their day in court to object to the seizure order before transferring the domain. All domainers should take note of the registrars ... read more ...

ICA Issues Statement On Kentucky Domain Seizures - The Internet Commerce Association (ICA) released the following statement regarding the domain seizures in Kentucky: “”””The Internet Commerce Association is aware of the extreme concern of ICA members regarding the action of the Kentucky Attorney General ordering the seizure of 141 gaming related domain names. Aftermarket.com Sells $150,000 in Live Domain Auction - Aftermarket.com auction ends with $150k in sales. The Aftermarket.com auction at TRAFFIC just concluded with $148,700 in sales according to my unofficial tally. Overall the online auction system worked fairly well with no latency. There are a few kinks to work out, though. For example, the bid increments used by the auctioneer didn’t match bidding increments requested online. Sometimes they were higher and sometimes lower. The auctioneer would ask the house ... read more ...

Sedo Tweaks Domain Listings - Sedo makes changes to domain listings pages. Last month Sedo rolled out major enhancements to its domain listings. The domain sales and parking company just made a few more changes based on feedback from the domain community. First, the Seller Activity Index represents 12 months of completed sales and is represented by a colored meter instead of stars. I like this change as stars seem to indicate how “good” something is, whereas this index is merely an indicator ... read more ...

Rick Latona Auctions, LLC’s first live auction will take place at the TRAFFIC conference in Brooklyn today. The auction goes live at 1:30 PM EDT today. We Get It Award: U.S. Mint - U.S. mint advertises a .gov domain but also registers .com version. This morning on the radio I heard an advertisement for the new United States Dollar coin.
