Sedo Makes a Push for a End User -
At the Domain Roundtable conference in Washington, D.C. last month, I noticed a lot of new faces with the Sedo team. As I started talking to them, I realized what was going on. Sedo had hired a number of people experienced selling to businesses. The company was making a focused effort selling to end users, and was hiring the right people to do it. These new employees are not domain industry veterans; they’re B-2-B salespeople.
As part of its push for end user ... read more ...

The whois information for Mouse.com and Keyboard.com have changed, with the administrative email now showing domain name broker Sedo. Moviles.net Domain Name Sells for $35,000 -
Spanish language domain name tops Sedo’s weekly charts.
It’s an interesting week when Sedo’s top domain name sale is only 25,000 EUR (about $35,000 USD). It’s even more interesting when that domain name is a Spanish language .net. But this past week Moviles.net took the crown at Sedo. “Moviles” means mobile in Spanish, and the domain name appears to have been used as a web site before being purchased. It is now temporarily parked at GoDaddy.

Sedo Fixes Auction User Interface -
Auction page now easier to scan.
One thing has always baffled me about the auction page at Sedo: domain names were truncated at 13 characters even though there was plenty of space to list the entire domain. Like many things in web applications, fixing this was a challenge due to some legacy backend systems. But I’m happy to report that Sedo has fixed the glitch and most domains are no longer truncated:
A quick review of current auctions shows only a couple truncated ... read more ...

2 Easy Changes for Better Earnings during Sedo Parking -
Peter Askew gives two simple tips for increasing domain parking earnings at Sedo.
by Peter Askew
At first, I was a domain parking newbie. I understood the business model, but always held a firm belief that development was the only way.
But, as the crack-like addiction of domaining consumed me, I began to realize the importance of parking, and the extra monetary lift it can contribute to a domain business – both from parked revenue, as well as re-sale.

Despite downturn, Sedo revenue drops only 12.6%.
[Editor: Earlier today I wrote about the acquisition price for RevenueDirect. Here is some more data about Sedo gleamed from its parent company annual report.]
Most people in the domain business would be happy to have their 2008 revenue be only 12.6% lower than 2007. Sedo has done just that.
According to its parent company AdLINK’s annual report, Sedo’s revenues fell from €62.6 in 2007 to €54.7 ... read more ...

Typo FAIL -
An unwise typo domain purchase.
This domain name auction, which concluded earlier today, begs two questions:
1. Do domain parkers click on ads when they accidentally stumble across a parked page?
2. Who would be stupid enough to shell out $2,250 on a domain that they’ll lose through arbitration?
Update 3/23: I received a note from Sedo today that the transaction was canceled. With regards to the comments below about allowing sales like this to happen, my experience ... read more ...

Someone’s Shouting a F-Bomb About Fbomb.com -
Obscure clothing company wins fbomb.com in arbitration.
In January I wrote about an ongoing auction at Sedo for the domain name Fbomb.com. Here’s what I wrote:
“FBomb.com – $1,500 – so many uses”
There are so many uses because of the generic meaning of f-bomb.
So I was surprised to notice a few weeks later that fbomb.com was in arbitration at National Arbitration Forum. I contact the owner who told me that the company that won the domain at Sedo filed ... read more ...
