.De Domain Name Auction Melts Sedo’s Servers -
.De auction traffic halts auction.
Massive traffic for Sedo’s .de “pre-auction” has taken the site down. A message on the site reads:
Due to the extremely high participation in the .De Pre-Auction Sedo?s website was temporarily down. We have decided to extend the auction until 8:00 PM CET. If necessary we will extend the auction later than this time to accommodate additional bids.
Presumably that means 8:00 PM ET. Actually they mean Central European Time, but ... read more ...

TV.de Auction Ends Over $400,000 -
TV.de leads .de domain name pre-auction.
When .de registry DENIC starts releasing previously unavailable domain names tomorrow, you can bet a lot of Sedo’s partner registrars will be hammering the registry for TV.de.
A “pre-auction” for TV.de closed at 279,499 EUR, which is about $419,000 USD at today’s exchange rates.
The auction is still ongoing as I write this (thanks to Sedo’s web site failing under the bidding activity), but only one character .de domain ... read more ...

Understanding Simultaneous Bidding Threads during Sedo -
Multiple bidding threads may cause confusion.
It sure seemed that there was a glitch in Sedo’s system.
I started receiving offers for one of my domains listed at Sedo — TaxiScreen.com — last week. The offers were small, and I countered with a reasonable asking price.
But something was weird. After the potential buyer offered a few hundred dollars, I received an email informing me that a bid had been received. I logged in to check it — and it only showed ... read more ...

Sedo has brokered the sale of Resumes.com for $400,000.

Scenes from SedoPro Event in Key West, Florida -
SedoPro event kicks off.
The SedoPro Partner Forum opened last night in Key West, Florida.
Getting to the event turned into a bit of a challenge for some attendees. I got stuck on a plane in Dallas, resulting in missing my connection in Miami to the island. I caught the next flight, which had about a half dozen people going to the event. But American Airlines had a few problems — apparently letting people on to the plane who didn’t have tickets — which ... read more ...

Good values in six figure domain names as RSS.com sells.
RSS.com took home the top prize this week at Sedo, with the domain name selling for $125,000. TheDomains reports that the buyer is Ron Sheridan, one of the earliest employees at Oversee.net. Sheridan left Oversee earlier this year.
This is another example of the good values available for high end buyers right now. The domain was originally listed at $750,000 before being dropped substantially. Big price ... read more ...

e.Biz Sells for $66,001 -
e.Biz steals the show at successful one character .biz auction.
It’s no surprise that e.Biz was the top selling domain name in Sedo’s one character .biz domain name auction.
But $66,001?
That will certainly turn a lot of heads. Especially since the winner could have picked the domain up for a few hundred dollars and a commitment to develop/market it had it gone through .biz registry Neustar’s RFP process.
About 20 bidders participated, but just two bidders ... read more ...
Sedo to Release Domain MLS in 2010 -
Sedo creating network to provide more exposure to domain name listings.
[UPDATE: Sedo actually introduced its MLS platform earlier this year and I wrote about it here. Sedo’s recent marketing email about SedoMLS is that all Sedo customers will get access to sell domains on it sometime in 2010. Currently, only certain partners and large portfolio holders are able to use SedoMLS. I have updated the story accordingly.]

AdMedia.com: Another Play on Ad.com? -
The Ad.com saga gets more interesting.
Sedo has completed the sale of AdMedia.com for $50,000. This is a curious sale because of what is now up at AdMedia.com:
Zoom in on a couple key elements, including the logo and copyright notice:
It sure looks like whomever has created this basic web site at AdMedia.com is trying to make a play on Ad.com, the disputed trademark that has caused some million dollar heartache.

After just a day of bidding, e.biz leads the pack at $6,201 with 17 bids. X.com biz is close behind at $5,000 with four bids. It appears that all domains have a reserve of $5,000, and only e.biz and x.biz have met their reserves so far. However, many other domains are getting close, including u.biz and 1.biz.

Sedo Acquires ParkingPanel -
Sedo acquires another domain name parking company.
In a long rumored transaction, Sedo has acquired domain name parking company ParkingPanel.com for an undisclosed price.
ParkingPanel was launched in 2006, but ran into a few roadblocks. In March of 2008 it lost its advertising feed and was forced to look for an alternate provider. It announced its relaunch in August of 2008. But, like many small domain name parking companies, it has faced a tough slough in today’s ... read more ...

Hyphenated domain sale is a shocker.
Sedo has brokered the sale of Hotel-Reservation.com for a shocking 142,800 EUR, or about $208,000 USD at today’s exchange rate. This is certainly one of the most expensive hyphenated domain name purchases of all time. Sedo’s Auto Categorization Tool Hits a Home Run -
Categorization tools saves time and increases odds of sale.
Sedo announced its new auto categorization tool last week. The most painful part of adding domains to Sedo (or Afternic, for that matter) is taking the time to categorize them. But since categorized domains are more likely to sell, this is an important step. Sedo’s expansion to over 2,000 categories means more targeted searches, but more of a headache submitting domains — if it weren’t for it’s ... read more ...
