Categorization tools saves time and increases odds of sale.
Sedo announced its new auto categorization tool last week. The most painful part of adding domains to Sedo (or Afternic, for that matter) is taking the time to categorize them. But since categorized domains are more likely to sell, this is an important step. Sedo’s expansion to over 2,000 categories means more targeted searches, but more of a headache submitting domains — if it weren’t for it’s nifty new tool.
I decided to give it for a spin today and added four domain names to my Sedo account:
1. GalleryAlbum.com – a good name for an online photo gallery, art galleries, etc.
2. MarbleLake.com – an 800 acre lake in Michigan
3. TinDoll.com – collectible tin dolls
4. TrueAudience.com – a generic with so many uses…audience measurement, social networking etc.
I submitted all four domains to Sedo using its auto categorization tool to see if it worked well. Here are the results:
GalleryAlbum.com – Arts > Visual Arts > Galleries
MarbleLake.com – Recreation > Outdoors > Other
TinDoll.com – Recreation > Collecting > Toys
TrueAudience.com – Society > Crime
All of these seem like good categorizations. TrueAudience.com is tricky as it is a brandable name.
If you aren’t satisfied with any of the categories the tool picks for you, it’s really easy to change them. Just click the category to open up a picker table:

It’s certainly a welcome great improvement.
Now how about Sedo allow keyword parsing so domains are easier to read?
It makes it easier when reading thru a large
list of domains.

Where do you see over 2,000 categories?
I wanted to pick keyword categories for PTABlog/com but didn’t see any category for Parents and certainly not Parents combined with Education or School…or am I missing something?

Patrick, Sedo says there are now over 2500 categorie.

@Patrick,
I agree about the keyword parsing! Also, be sure to use the Search tool in the keyword tree. That is very helpful if you can not seem to find the proper category! Use the keyword Parent, Education etc.
The search function sure helped me a lot. Congrats to Sedo for such a great improvement!

Andrew,
When you use the Search Box (thanks Jamie!),
and put in a keyword, different categories sometimes appear that differ from the default selections.
That most likely explains the over 2500 categories claim.
I know the tool is a great improvement but I still find it difficult to get the proper categories sometimes.
I don’t know if anyone would be interested in this exercise:
“What categories would you select for…?”
TableTopCooking/com
The resulting ads on the Parked page are food related but not relative to Table Top cooking like Fondue, cooking with Hot Stones, Chinese fire pot, etc.
Any idea how to make the results better?

One more:
DiscountDirect/info
Shopping should be the main category I would think but I couldn’t find any way to select Discount or Bargain categories to complement the main theme.
Any ideas?
Andrew Allemann says
@ Patrick – perhaps someone from Sedo can respond. If the parking page is your concern, I’d go to tabletopcooking.com in the domain manager and manually add the keywords. Choose one a your main one, then your “related links” as Chinese fire pot et al.

Seems like when sedo “improves” something they seem to screw up something else at the same time.
I have spent hundreds of hours setting the related links section to the best paying and most searched for keywords related to the domain, now many of them have just dissapeared and have been relaced with non-related generic links…another strange coincidence perhaps ???
I wish they would just concentrate & perfect the most important things first.

Where can we get a demo of it ?
