Should domain marketplaces boost smallest bid requirements? - Is $60 or $250 too low for a minimum offer? Should you be forced to set something higher? It seems that Go Daddy’s inclusion of non-priced domains from Sedo set off the latest round of discussions about minimum offer prices, but it’s a discussion that’s been going on for years. Sedo has a minimum offer price of $60. The minimum commission is $50, but may be waived if you park your domain with them. Afternic has a minimum offer price of $250. Its minimum commission ... read more ...

Sedo finish user sales: SocialismSucks.com, Torrents.com, and more - Sedo’s end user sales include Torrents.com at 84,700 EUR. This week I’m trying something a little different with my end user sales lists: I’m breaking Sedo and Afternic into two separate posts. Keep in mind that these end user reports have only a subset of the end user sales for the week, even a subset of what each marketplace sold that is public. In order to be included it has to be an obvious end user sale. Many sales are still in escrow or protected by whois ... read more ...

Trailers.net gets $15k bid and Great Domain Auction starts - Plenty of action at Sedo this month and a wide range of TLDs in Great Domains auction. Sedo’s monthly Great Domains auction has started and will run through January 24. The auction includes 199 domain names and all but 8 have reserves under $/EUR/GBP 10,000. This month’s auction includes a number of country code domain names and .nets — a lot more than I’m used to seeing. Some of the ccTLDs are crisis.co.uk, wireless.co.uk, gay.es, and the ironic Russia.it. While ... read more ...

Using live discuss to sell domain names - Live support chat can help sell domain names if executed well. Have you ever been on an e-commerce site when a window pops up asking you if you need help? Live chat on e-commerce sites is a critical component of pushing sales and reducing cart abandonment. So I was delighted this morning to see Sedo doing this on their domain listing pages. I had a domain listing on Sedo.com open in my browser for a while. Next thing I know I see a friendly young lady asking if I ... read more ...

Sedo holiday finish user sales report - A slow couple weeks but some good end user domain purchases. Domain sales typically slow during the holidays, and that’s evident in Sedo’s year end sales report. The company turned in $1.38 million in sales over two weeks. It typically sells that much in one week. I’m still waiting on Afternic’s year end sales. For now here are the end user sales I found on Sedo’s report, including a sale to Warner Music. What domains BASF and 13 other finish users bought this week - BASF among the big companies buying domain names last week. This week’s end user sales report is shorter than usual. That doesn’t mean fewer domains were purchased by end users. It’s likely a combination of two factors. First, more domains are still in the escrow process this week than usual. If they’re in escrow I have no way of figuring out who owns the domains. Second, there were companies with names in which I couldn’t easily figure out if they were ... read more ...

Lean Domain Search integrates Sedo domain listings - Aftermarket domains debut on Lean Domain Search. I’m a fan of Lean Domain Search, which I think is one of the best domain name generators out there. Until now I’ve had one main beef with the site, and that is that it focused solely on available domain names and didn’t promote that often times the ideal domain name can be purchased for $1,000 or so. So I’m happy to report that the site has now integrated Sedo domain name listings into its search results. The ... read more ...

Sedo reports earnings: domain parking still a drag, income down 18% - Sedo’s domain parking business continues to struggle. Sedo Holding just reported earnings (pdf) for the first three quarters of 2012, and the message is more of the same: domain parking is still a drag. Overall, Sedo Holding AG grew revenue €98.7 million in the first nine months of 2012. That’s up 7.3% compared to the same period last year. But earnings are struggling, and the domain marketing segment (i.e. Sedo) takes a lot of the blame. Sedo.com generated ... read more ...

Major League Baseball and Miami Heat make domain purchases — and we won’t trust a prices - NBA team with team salary of $88 million buys a domain for $1,358. Last week’s end user domain sales report is a week late because I was traveling this week. Two sports domains traded hands this week at stunningly low prices given who the buyers were. Major League Baseball paid just $900 for TopOfTheOrder.com and while the Miami Heat paid just $1,358 for TheHeatStore.com. TheHeatStore.com isn’t a great domain, so it wasn’t necessarily worth more.
