Meet The Owners of The Domain Twins.com And It's Not MLB, Actual Twins - Grantland.com did a long and very detailed article about “the website MLB couldn’t buy” and that website in reference is to one of only 3 domain names NOT owned by Major League Baseball (MLB), Twins.com. The story states: The Millers told me that they staked their claim to Twins.com so early that they got it for free. It was the era of Internet land grabs, when all one had to do to rope off a URL was be the first one with the impulse. (They admiringly mention a friend of theirs, Jeff, who “scored,” ... read more ...

Why $1.2 million for Rockies.com didn’t pass my spot test - Major League Baseball is denying that it paid $1.2 million when it bought Rockies.com. That doesn’t surprise me. This week you may have wondered why I didn’t cover the purchase of Rockies.com by Major League Baseball. After all, I’ve chronicled MLB’s quest to acquire the domain names of each of its 30 teams. I believe I was also the first to write about Rockies.com going up for sale. Here’s why I didn’t cover it: I didn’t believe it. Well, I believed ... read more ...

Major League Baseball and Miami Heat make domain purchases — and we won’t trust a prices - NBA team with team salary of $88 million buys a domain for $1,358. Last week’s end user domain sales report is a week late because I was traveling this week. Two sports domains traded hands this week at stunningly low prices given who the buyers were. Major League Baseball paid just $900 for TopOfTheOrder.com and while the Miami Heat paid just $1,358 for TheHeatStore.com. TheHeatStore.com isn’t a great domain, so it wasn’t necessarily worth more. It’s possible ... read more ...

MLB buys Athletics.com domain name - Major League Baseball makes another big domain acquisition. Just a couple days ago I was revisiting a post I wrote in 2010 about Major League Baseball’s domain names. The only change to the list since I posted was MLB picking up Angels.com. But this week MLB picked up another one. Jamie Zoch of dotWeekly discovered that the league just bought Athletics.com. That leaves just five teams that MLB doesn’t own the “exact” domain name for. Of the remaining domains, ... read more ...

MLB Has Another Chance to Get Angels.com - Angels.com is up for sale at a reasonable price. Yesterday Major League Baseball passed on buying Athletics.com, one of seven team names it does not own the domain for , at the DOMAINfest auction. But next week it’s getting another chance at Angels.com, which is up for auction at GreatDomains with a reserve price of $100,000-$250,000. The owner of the domain name had previously offered to sell it to an unidentified agent working for MLB for $300,000. The league ... read more ...
