NameMedia: List Once. Sell Everywhere. -
NameMedia files trademark application for new slogan.
I suppose a company has marketed itself well when you see a trademark application, haven’t yet seen who filed it, yet can guess who filed it.
That’s the case with a new service mark application from NameMedia, the company behind BuyDomains and Afternic. Last week the company filed for “List Once. Sell Everywhere.” After seeing the trademark yet before seeing who filed it I thought “I bet this is NameMedia.” ... read more ...

Go Daddy Sells Dirt.com for $100,000 -
Domain registrar brokers some expensive dirt.
Go Daddy has sold the Dirt.com domain name through its aftermarket service for $100,000. The buyer is using a whois proxy service to protect his identity. The “coming soon” page at Dirt.com hints that the site will be about celebrity gossip. Dirt.com was previously a forum aimed at uncovering corporate malfeasance. Some of its targets (including Walmart) are probably pleased that the site will now be focused on ... read more ...

Buyer Beware: If You Buy A Zuccarini Domain At Latonas Expect To Be Sued - Buyer Beware
That’s the only advice I can give anyone planning on buying one of Zuccarini’s domains now held by a receiver if they are auctioned off at Latonas.
If you buy one of these domains at Latonas auction expect to be sued.
I confirmed with John Zuccarini today that he is planning on suing anyone who buys one of the domains at auction.
John also states that he will file motions asking a court to place all of the earnings of any of the purchase domains into escrow while the suit(s) are ... read more ...

Marketplace deals exclusively with domains that receive traffic.
Francois Carrillo of Domaining.com has launched a brand new marketplace for selling domains that get traffic. In keeping with Carrillo’s love of great domain names, the marketplace is aptly named TrafficDomains.com.
Even more exciting for me is that Carrillo has chosen to use DNW Certified Stats to authenticate traffic stats on the site. One of the big challenges to buying domains with traffic is ... read more ...

If an auction occurs, expect to put your money where your mouth is.
We might never see an auction for Sex.com. But if we do, expect to put up a significant deposit if you wish to bid.
Court documents show that the bankruptcy sales procedure for Sex.com will include three phases.
In the first phase domain broker Sedo will do a worldwide outreach and prequalification of interested parties. The second phase is a negotiation period with qualified parties. The third ... read more ...
The Truth About NameMedia, Afternic, and BuyDomains -
Here’s why NameMedia sells more of its own domains than clients’ domains.
Every once in a while I feel like going on a rant. So here goes.
There’s been a lot of talk on both my blog and others about NameMedia, which operates BuyDomains and AfternicDLS.
NameMedia owns its own portfolio of domains which it sells through its platform. It also allows other domain owners (i.e., you) to sell domains via its AfternicDLS system, which then syndicates through its ... read more ...
Jason Davis Strikes Again with Recruiter.com -
Jobs domain pro merges one of his companies with Recruiter.com.
Jason Davis has struck another large domain name deal by merging his RecruitingBlogs.com with Recruiter.com.
Although technically a merger, Recruiter.com’s domain name was its main contribution to the puzzle. Recruiter.com owner Ashley Saddul will join the merged entity as CTO and founder.
I first talked to Davis after he sold CEOjobs.com to Harry Joiner last year. I ran a profile about him the ... read more ...

DomainName.com To Be Auctioned Tuesday -
Generic domain name for domain industry goes on the block Tuesday.
DomainConsultant.com’s auction of DomainName.com is taking place on Tuesday, August 31.
This isn’t just an auction for the domain name — it includes an ICANN accredited registrar with an active customer base and about 8,000 domain registrations. That’s not a huge number, but if you take a look at what has been done with DomainName.com to date, it appears there’s a lot of upside.

BuyDomains.com has reporting its domain name sales for quite a while and Ron Jackson has included these sales on DNJournal.com

Unlike Sedo.com which charges 3% extra not to disclose the sale, there will be no fee or charge for ... read more ...

10 Reasons You’re Not Selling More Domains -
Here’s what’s stopping you from selling more domain names.
1. The distribution market is still fragmented – we’re still at a point where we have a fragmented market of domain listing distribution providers. There’s AfternicDLS, Domain Distribution Network, and to some extent Sedo. GoDaddy has a separate service to get in front of end users. As long as these systems aren’t fully cooperative, it’s harder to sell domains.
2. You aren’t listing them ... read more ...

For Domain Auctions, Online Component Still a Challenge -
Domain auctions have a history of technical glitches.
Shortly after Moniker’s domain name auction at DOMAINfest in NYC concluded yesterday, I saw a couple blog posts heralding it as a great success. I was a bit confused, because I didn’t see the same thing in the actual auction room.
You don’t need to point fingers at the people who blogged about the auction, as apparently it did look like a huge success online thanks to problems with the online bidding interface. ... read more ...
