Some pretty interesting numbers coming out of the ICANN meeting’s Opening Session in Beijing today.
China has 564 Million Internet users, which represents over 42% of their population and almost double the population of the US.
China added 40 million new Internet Users in just the last year.
China has 7 of the Top 30″Internet Companies”
China E-Commerce has reached $7 Billion.

34 companies add to their online presence with aftermarket domain purchases.
Afternic had a better-than-usual sales week last week with close to $1.5 million in sales. Here are 34 end user domain sales I found on its list.
American Association of Young People was back to buy YoungPeople.org for $2,488.
AV India in Delhi bought AVIndia.com for $1,800.

Dropbox buys an India ccTLD and other end user domain sales.
Sedo sold 704 domains for over $1.25 million last week. I’ve identified 16 of the publicly reported sales as end user sale. There are certainly more, but these are the ones that stood out to me.
Webbs Garden Centres bought webbs.co.uk for 995 GBP. It now forwards to WebbsDirect.co.uk.
pair Networks, Inc., a frequent aftermarket domain buyer, bought PairMail.com for $800.

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley Buys MixBit.com For $2,088 On Afternic To Start New Video Site - The Co-founder of YouTube Chad Hurley just announced announced on Twitter that he was launching his new Video site, MixBit.com which he purchased on Afternic.com less than a month ago for just $2,088.
“The future of video is launching soon!”

Interestingly the same week MixBit.com sold for $2,088 on Afternic.com another version of the domain, mixedbits.com also sold for $2,488.

Godaddy.com Sells Over 42K Domain Names In March - Godaddy.com posted its sales totals for March 2013, reporting 42,600 domain sold on its platform in March.
This is a substantial increase over February where Godaddy.com reported 34,985

Company buys dual domains from Frank Schilling for $80,000 -
SearchCore discloses purchases in SEC filing.
Companies buy domains from Frank Schilling’s Name Administration all the time, but here’s an example that’s in an SEC filing. It also shows that Schilling is willing to sell domains on a payment plan.
The buyer is SearchCore, which I wrote about earlier this year.
The company has some high profile sales, including Makeup.com for $2 million, and some high profile purchases, such as Rodeo.com and Karate.com.

Online video association paid over $100,000 for uLive domains -
Real Gravity is mystery buyer of uLive.com and uLive.tv.
Last week Afternic reported that it sold uLive.tv for $27,000.
I was correct that the uLive.tv buyer is the same company that paid $75,000 for uLive.com last month.
But my guess as to who that buyer is missed the mark.
It wasn’t CBS, which runs a college network by the uLive name.

19 end users paid between $700 and $36,000 for domains at Sedo last week.
The top reported sale on Sedo’s sales list this past week was to an end user, although we don’t yet know what that end user plans to launch at the domain. Here are details on that sale and others:
The Exchange, which owns the undeveloped site TheExchangeMail.com, bought TheExchange.com for $36,000. Given the price tag, it’s clear this was an end user.

GFA.com leads Afternic auction on SnapNames -
Lots of good domains in auction ending Friday.
Afternic is running another auction on the SnapNames platform and it’s attracting lots of bidders.
The auction includes 136 domains with reserve ranges starting as low as $200 to as high as $250,000. It ends on Friday.
As of right now the three letter domain GFA.com has the highest bid at $11,249. The reserve has been met.
Also keep an eye on sweat.com. It has been bid up to $7,750, but the reserve is between $10,000-$25,000.

It’s a lucky number, but is it this lucky?
[Update: my skepticism was warranted. The bid has been cancelled.] The domain name 8888.com has received a 400,000 EUR bid at Sedo. That’s over $500,000 USD.
8 is consider a lucky number in Chinese culture. Lucky enough for a four digit domain to be worth over $500,000?

First Premium .Pw Sales Announced: P.pw and W.pw Sold For $8K Each - The new .PW ‘Professional Web’ TLD launched by Directi just announced their first premium domain name sales.
The single letter domain name P.pw and W.pw were sold to the same end user for $8,000 each.
The buyer is identified as a “A European Hosting Company”
To my knowledge these are the first reported .Pw premium domain name sales.
The Landrush period for .Pw continues until March 18th and is available at over 100 ICANN accredited registrars.

The NBA is among the end user buyers on Sedo last week.
Sedo had a pretty good week last week for selling domains to end users.
A key highlight is the NBA, which bought a .in domain for just shy of $5,000. Here’s the list:
Swiss company PUBLICS bought Publics.ch for EUR 850. Its main web site is PublicsPartner.ch, so this is a big improvement. I wonder if it’s also the company that paid EUR 15,000 for Partners.eu, which is still in escrow.
